Ok so I'm on 24 hour duty and the other guy on duty with me is watching a show on MTV that is supposed to be a comic video show, but every single clip is nothing but people punching an unsuspecting person, or hitting them with various things (refrigerator doors, bats, etc.) and they all think it's funny for such senseless violence. Perhaps this is representative of the times? People wonder why there is such evil and violence in the world.
Sorry I'm kinda venting but I find nothing like that funny at all and others think it is a hoot. Where is the civility at anymore?!

Being a child of the 60's, I was one of millions who were raised on daily doses of "The Three Stooges" and constant showings of fairly violent cartoons such as Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner, plus a bunch more.
I guess that even though most of us thought that the slap-stick humour was incredibly funny, I must admit that it was hardly civil and maybe it even allowed us to lower our guard when it came to seeing violence as being a reasonable form of humour. I noticed last week that they have just released a new version of “The Three Stooges”, I wonder how our contemporary society will view this style of humour.
Even though I loved the older style of cartoon humour, it’s probably not something that we should be encouraging our children to view and as for ‘The Three Stooges’, I wonder if this will only encourage our children to use violence in the schoolyard.
One thing that I must say, if you had raised this question during the 60s and 70’s most of my generation would have thought that you were simply being a kill-joy, but over more recent years we have seen numerous articles that has addressed the incredible the issue of violence that has been a staple of childrens cartoons for decades; how things have changed and of course undoubtedly for the better - well at least in the area of removing violence from childrens cartoons. |

Yes, it is a sign of the times.

No, I don't have a Kindle. I have something much better; it's solar powered and called a book. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
