I mean, look they all made a promise to reject Satan at their confirmations, right? Satan, Sartain, easy mistake to make.
It's like a test. Reject Satan and continue on your mission of helping the poor and the sick, or give into temptation and spend all your time reworking your organization to focus on hating gays and voting for Republicans. |

Thanks. Good to see that you're still hanging around setting people straight!

Actually, everything I've read about Sartain indicates he is brilliant, fair, respectful, and collaborative. Obviously by far the best of the three on his committee.
And NCR released a statement from the LCWR after the meeting saying they would work with Archbishop Sartain and reserve judgment unless they believed that their ministries and charisms were being threatened.
I think that's a positive result.

Thanks. I'm glad to see you've stuck with this. I think folks like you and Mike and Charlie are a really good influence on a place like this. Kind of living examples that people can be faithful without being extreme, and that God isn't a political ideology. I don't know much about Sartain as a person. The play on his name was just a joke. I am concerned about the Vatican stepping in here, though. To me the Catholic nuns are a model of what faith is supposed to be-- loving and caring for the poor and the sick. Suddenly hearing a report that they need to be more focused on towing an ideological line and less focused on seeing Christ in others disappoints me. In a better world, it'd be the nuns who were sending a representative to take charge of the bishops to get them refocused on their charism of servant-leadership and standing up for the downtrodden.
However, you are right that dialogue is a good first option. Had the nuns opted simply to split their organization from the official Church, they would have lost the influence they have. The Church needs them more than it knows. The official report talking about needing to reform the nuns, but really it's the nuns who need to reform the report writing types, if you ask me. And that can only happen if both sides keep talking. |

Oh well, whatever, how you been?
As far as Bishop Sartain. That's our Bishop! He was only appointed to our archdiocese in 2010. Please don't tell me that I'm going to have to learn yet another name. It's not fair! Learning new names is not something that comes very easily to me. (goes hand and hand with not being as observant as I should be.)

I think that dog's age thing may be literally true, in a way. Last time I was posting here, I'm not sure I had yet adopted my dog. I went out and got an eight week old puppy. I've had him over two years now. He started out as this little 7 lb thing you could hold in your hand and these days he's this big nearly 70 lb behemoth of a golden retriever. Quite the personality, too. Very endearing, and very strong willed.
I take him all over the place with me. He used to ride in the car on my lap, and now he sits in the co-pilot seat clawing me periodically if I lapse in my duty to pet him constantly.
His hobbies include antagonizing the Rottweiler next door and hiding behind me while I deal with the fall out.
Goldens are incredibly cute and personable. High maintenance, though. They must be the center of attention at all times. I'd recommend them to anyone.
Life's a struggle, but it's not all bad. Day to day. At least there's beer to drink and football to watch. Trying to stay positive even though life hasn't gone the way I'd like it to have (To put it mildly). Could have been worse.
How've you been? |

My little shorkie (shih-tzu/yorkie) is cuddling with me right now. My hubby is out of town. When we got her she was about 3 pounds, and now she may weigh 5 or 6. We have another little dog, too, and the two of them together weigh less than our cat.
But I have fond memories of my Heinz 57 big dog--no matter what their size, dogs are one of God's best gifts to us.
