One person believes you do not eat meat offered to idols, a second person believes you can eat idol meat, and a third person there believes you must eat the idol meat if you are a guest and it's placed before you at a dinner table. What would you do ? Eat the meat, eat only a bit or two, not eat the meat or some other choice ?
I'd excuse myself and leave the premises post haste. I don't care to hang out with people who serve meat left over from sacrifices to idols. |

Really, this is a Christian forum, and you are asking Christians if they would eat meat sacrificed to idols; so what's the point of the question? I mean, I get that a lot of Christians are confused as to what it means to be a Christian, but the confusion is rarely exposed by such obvious questions.
For example, the love of money. You'll never find a professing Christian confessing to loving money, and yet, a whole lot of money loving still happens. If you ask "who loves money" you'll find a whole room full of people saying "not me".
BUT, if you start talking about the specifics of materialism, possessions and working for money, suddenly the answers will start to become extremely varied and confusing.

Your question is so basic to scripture I expected to find a dozen answers all the same, but not one mentioned the 8th chapter of 1 Corinthians where Paul, through the Holy Spirit, gave us the correct answer. Are we reading God's Word out there? Bless the LORD. |

It sounds like you are suggesting people who said they would not eat the meat gave the wrong answer. You say Paul mentioned the correct answer, but that no one here did.
The context of the example is that everyone knows the meat was sacrificed to idols. The question is, would you eat the meat in the presence of someone who would stumble as a result of you eating the meat, knowing that it was sacrificed to idols.
The very first sentence in the OP set the context. Here it is: Paul said to be careful to not make another believer in Christ stumble.
People said they would not eat the meat. How is that inconsistent with what Paul said about not eating meat sacrificed to idols if it could offend the weak faith of someone looking on?

I would show the most love to the weakest brother at the table. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
