Ahmadinejad: Word forces must annihilate Israel

There are a lot of wonderful, normal, peaceful Israelis and Iranians who are going to get very hurt and/or dead, if there ever is a war. I vote we pray for peace.

LantanaAnna, I wonder if you've read what the Lord said to Israel before he went to the cross?

This is what he said:
Matthew 23:37-39:

37 “ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.

38 Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!

39 For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say, ‘ Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’”

After Jesus says this, in Matthew 24 He tells His disciples of the great destruction that would come to Jerusalem in what we commonly call the "Olivet Discourse".

This idea that God is coming back to deliver the nation of Israel is not correct. Romans 9:6-8 makes the case and it's very clear that it is the "Israel of God" which is all believers:

6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel;

7 nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: “ through Isaac your descendants will be named.”

8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants.

The point here is that it's not about the Jew by nationality, but the Jew by spirituality.

Paul made that very clear earlier in Romans 2:28, 29:

28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh.
29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

This is about Spiritual Israel, which is every believer in Christ. It makes no difference what race, color, or creed you are. Which is why Paul continually tells us that God is not a respecter of persons.
