Hope this is the right place to ask this. Anyone else having a problem trying to find their purpose, I mean, I know my purpose is to glorify God, but … what am I supposed to do. Or put another way, what is my gift. If I know my gift from the spirit, thats what I am to exercise? I'm 44, been searching since I was about 30, and I just can't seem to know what I was meant to do.
I've been doing software professionally for almost 25 years now and one of my problems is that I'm very passionate about it to the point that I seem to be more into software than I do in studying the Bible. I have a hard time working with people and I can't discern any gifts I may have from the Spirit. That doesn't sit well with me but I just can't seem to change. Did God give me this passion for my job or is this an idol?
Anyone offer any advice? |

I highlighted a sentence. Spiritual gifts were given to build up the body of Christ. I do not think you will discover your gift in isolation. Hebrews 10:24-25 makes it clear that we need to find a community of believers.
Commitment to your job is not wrong unless it is out of balance with other priorities. Your job seems like a solitary setting. Make time to get out and spend time with other believers and gain the skills to relate with others and I think your gift will emerge.
