I want to pray, but I just don't think God can help me

Sorry to be negative. Yes, I believe in God. But maybe I'm just too far along into depression. There are two things that I really want to pray for, but I think to myself "What's the point?". I'm trying my best, but I just don't think things will ever get better-- even with God's prayer.

How do I get out of this?

Honestly, I don't know how you're going to get out of this. All I can do is say a prayer for you, that the Lord will touch your heart, His will be done, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Pray about it! Read God's Word, and let Him reveal himself to you.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. (Psalm 46:1-3)

Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. (Psalm 61:1-4)

I know what you mean - but HE is forever faithful.

We can come BOLDLY to the throne of Grace because while were were still sinners, Christ Jesus died for us. Just talk to him as your best friend. He loves you.

Depression can sometimes have a physical cause. For ex. the most common health problem in America is hypothyroidism. You can see symptoms for this at stopthethyroidmadness.com. It is associated with depression and many other problems. (Unfortunately as I discovered myself, it may not show up in blood tests right away - ditto if you go to that site see Those durn adrenals.)

Things like low iron can also lead to depression. If you push down on a fingernail does it turn red again very quickly? Of course a blood test is better - but again, they are not always accurate for borderline problems.
(A previous doctor told me much that is wrong with today's blood testing.)

Of course I don't know what the root of the problem is, but I am going to pray that Messiah will lead you to the cure and to a close relationship with Him.

Please pray for believers being persecuted for their faith.

Depression is the worst thing that can stop you praying, make you question things like, am i a christian, whats the point of praying, is it worth it?, I know this myself love because at times i also suffer severe depression, and in that state of mind when it hits those same questions go round and round my head.
My question to you at this time and because your so low is try and remember God knows exactly what your thinking. You have actually made the first step too by reaching out and asking the question 'Whats the point', Gods response without you even speaking outloud is saying, he knows your thoughts and what you want to pray for, Let him take control, what cries we make from our heart he hears louder and right at this present minute he is working with your prayer, your depression, and everything you think. Youve cried out in the only way you can at the moment and God sees that, and will answer. Also when were in depression its automatic we feel feelings of no hope or answers but that feeling will lift. When im bad, i have to try and focus on ok im feeling depressed at this time, accept I have the illness of depression, and even if im lying there which many times i am with no hope, is rather than pray just say 'God you know my thoughts, please help' he is then in control. I actually really feel youve made a first step a very big one even by writing on here, be proud of yourself for that. Not guilty, cos your suffering.

There are many ways to pray. Paul calls it "praying with all prayer" in eph 6. Again and again he says to pray without ceasing. So however it is you can pray, pray. Keep turning your focus to God, keep reaching for faith. Eventually it will stick and you'll get traction. Don't put any faith in circumstances or the way you feel. Jesus is Lord of ALL.
