Particularly in the evening, I find myself comfort eating, sometimes to the point of nearly bingeing. I find it frustrating, particularly since I'm trying to eat healthier.
Any thoughts? Anything in particular helped that's healthy during these times of struggle?

I struggle with this big time. I notice if I'm watching tv it's worse. Sometimes I chew gum, sounds silly but it works. Also they say diet soda can make you crave sugar and carbs. That was ever so disappointing to me b/c I'm a diet soda junkie. Also for me if I don't buy it it wont be tempting or I've heard of ppl keeping it in the freezer so that it takes longer so you cant eat it right away. Hope this helps a little bit. It is a hard and frustrating thing!!!
I thought of gum recently, though I've not gotten any. I should try that. I have tried the not buying it - then when I do get it, I want to binge on it. So I haven't figured that part out yet.
Thanks for responding. It helps!

I deal with it, Kristen-- the evening hours are very difficult. I go to Overeaters Anonymous meetings online-- that's actually where I went after we chatted on Skype yesterday-- to talk to others who deal with it and it helps me to relax. There's one that I go to that has chats every # hours around the clock- #am, #am, #am, #am, #pm, #pm, #pm, #pm. If you'd like some info just send me a pm.
Don't know if you're on Facebook either but there's a great group I post at throughout the day to encourage myself (and hopefully others too) to keep this up.

I struggle with this too, especially candy. It is usually at night for me as well.
One thing I have tried is grapes. Not sure how into fruit you are, but eating those actually helps me. I still have my junk food times but a lot less since purchasing grapes. They are easy to eat and good for you as well.
I was doing hard candies for a bit but then I started eating way too many and so grapes it is!

I started this group at CF if anybody cares to join and check with others with COE: Compulsive Overeaters

I've started to work step one of the twelve steps for Overeaters Anonymous- I also have two sponsors now: one to help me work the steps and the other to share what I've eaten with and work on a meal plan/how to eat. Haven't had any binges in the last two days and I've been even able to eat out (hubby and I come up with a game plan and he helps me stick to it).
I'm so thrilled! I started out the summer feeling lost and eating anything- gained weight- and was too scared to talk to others about my COE. Now, one step, two sponsors, and a couple of hours of exercise later, I'm doing a lot better
Wishing you all peace and hope through this journey!!

This thread has helped me realise other people have the same issue as I. I have COE and find it such a struggle to gain control of my eating, it always seems to be three steps forward, six steps back. I find it harder to control my issue when living with my parents as they do not take what I need to do to stop myself eating everything seriously, but that is no excuse.
I had managed to lose #lbs by only buying enough food to last me a day and having an accountability partner in the house, but I have gained #lbs back since moving back home. I shall have to look into Overeaters Anonymous, it sounds like it would be beneficial.
It is great news about your progress so far, I wish you the best for your future .
I really have a problem with this as well. I work until # am and if I have the money I have to fight hard not to stop at the McDonald's on the way home and buy # or # double cheeseburgers. It is especially bad if I have had a bad night.
