Racing Thoughts

Racing Thoughts

After engaging in social interactions I sometimes dwell on the things that were said. Especially if I percieve myself as having said something stupid. The shame and anxiety causes my head to spin. It can become so intense that I lose touch with reality. Everything becomes all jumbled up and doesn't make any coherent sense. This is especialy true if the discussion was over the big questions of life. I'm learning to identify the contributing beliefs and patterns that keep my anxiety going. By writing these things down it helps me to gain perspective and identify these negative shame and anxiety producing belief structures. By replacing them with more realistic belief structures I'm lessening the racing of my thoughts. I become more relaxed and able to be myself.

KathyW is on a distinguished road
Cole, you identify 2 very healthy approaches to managing anxious thoughts. First, journaling (writing them down.) But also, replacing those racing thoughts with truth. Use God's Word for this. Romans 12:2 tells us we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds. You can replace negative thoughts with God's truth and He in turn uses His words to renew your mind.
