My nephew is deaf, please help

My name is Matt. I've always had a strong faith in God. I was raised Catholic but I'm not exactly sure of my denomination at this point. To be honest I feel like I'm a good person and I pray, and I truly believe...and no matter what technicality it gets down to religiously I'm a Christian.

Anyway, my sister and I are incredibly close, we always have been. She just had a son two months ago, and he's such a blessing. I'm his Godfather, and I promised my sister I would take care of him always no matter what. My family was devistated today when we found out that he cannot hear. We're obviously just working on soaking it in, but I'm just confused. I immediately prayed and I told God that I believe in him no matter what and I understand that there's a reason for these things. But I can't help asking, why my sister, and her husband, and my nephew? They're all such sweet people, and she had a perfect pregnancy.

It just hurts. We all still love him just as much as before and I will always be there for him, but I just have a wrench in my heart and I'm not quite sure what to do. Any advice would help. God bless.

A couple of issues come to mind here. First is the basic question: why do bad things happen to good people?. This is a common question thats not quickly answered. The best answer is the biblical story but how do you put the whole biblical story in a single post? I cant do that. So let me give you a road map to your own discovery of this answer. Read your bible but do it this way. First read John, here you meet creator, healer, teacher, Jesus....next read Romans, here you find out that sin broke everything and left man no way back to God but Jesus. Then read Daniel, here you find out that no matter what we go through God is there with us, you also find out that bad things happen to good people.
Then finally read the whole bible.

God bless

Receiving the spirit of God is a miracle, it's a gift given to those that have been allowed to see their lost condition and they cry out to the Lord: Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
