Put it this way: being reconciled to G-d means HATING what G-d hates.
While those words are strong, they are not NEARLY strong enough to convey the Truth of the matter.
Now compare this idea to Jagger's lyrics, knowing that G-d hates evil, and see what you come up with.
Then I said: "Why would God hate what he created?" And you replied:

So you are saying things that God hates aren't his creation? I was under the impression that God created everything... including hate.
Besides, hate is a rather silly emotion for an omnipotent, omniscient God to feel... If everything is his perfect creation, then what exactly would be his reason for hating anything? That's exactly how he made the things he apparently hates.
I'm new to this website completely, so I don't know if this would be the correct forum to come for this kind of question. Anyways, I love Metal. I've tried experimenting with other genres of music but honestly none other can make me truly get lost within the music like Metal does. As many of you know however, metal has always had a deep and mysterious affiliation with satanism. So sometimes I'm hesitant to listen to bands such as Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica. But it's just some almost genetic passion that, when I listen to a dark song of Slayer I have to stop myself. My brain and heart becomes panicked, and I just have to take a deep breath and continue on with my day. I know this may seem like I need a prayer. And I have asked God in prayers to give me the wisdom to assist me in knowing what is ethically acceptable to listen to. Now there is no way I'm going to wear a Slayer shirt that has a Pentagram, it just wouldn't feel right. But listening to bands such as Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth have a Satanic influence on me? I'm really just troubled and need help. Thank you.
By the way those aren't the only bands, I like -
Emmure
Beheading of a king
Bring me the Horizon
Occasionally Slayer, but no songs that speak of the devil.
and much more. I'm not expecting anyone to give me a full answer of each and every band, but just a summary of what would God like me to do. It suck to have this genre completely ripped out of my life, though.
I would do some research into the backgrounds. I've seen the backgrounds of these bands, and personally, would never go near them. Even if you like them, there are some things that you just need to cut off if you want to please God.
Something that I once did which my friend suggested, was fast from all music for a month. That was hard for me, but it did alot of good in the end.
You can't let anything control you, be it music, videos, games. You must be able to say, no.
That would be my number one rule when it comes to music. I must be able to stop listening to it indefinitely.
1Co_6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

Son, and I use the term affectionately, I'd urge you to keep an open mind. Some of the things you might condemn, might be your very friends speaking in a different tone. Backgrounds are funny things. The man you might condemn because of what he did in High School, might be the same man who did great things for the Gospel overseas. . . The man you might condemn for some sin, might be the same man who has gone where you don't have the stones to, to spread the Gospel there. The man who sings now of struggles in his past may very well be trying to tell those who are struggling now, he got out.
Here are some lyrics:
I run on the wrong side of life
I'm the one that you fear when you hold your wife
I run where the darker crowds run
On the rain-swept streets where black rain runs
I play where the darker kids play
I'm the one who goes out when you end your day
I dance were the darker crowds dance
In the pitch black clubs in a clove stained trance
I see things the darker kids see
Though you wouldn't believe all that's happened to me
I've been to the backside of Hell
And I've played with your fear and enjoyed it well
This our time, the nights our day
We'll dance this fading life away
I run on the wrong side of life
I'm the one that you fear when you hold your wife
I run where the darker crowds run
On the rain-swept streets where black rain runs
I play where the darker kids play
I'm the one who goes out when you end your day
I dance were the darker crowds dance
In the pitch black clubs in a clove stained trance
This, our time, the night's our day
We'll dance this fading life away
Granted it is in the "steam punk" genre . . . . but you read the lyrics and tell me something there is something darker than teen rebellion there. Really.
This thread has been cleaned.
If you wish to discuss Noah, please take it elsewhere.
Civil discussion is fine, flaming one another and making personal comments is not!
Thank you
