Not just your typical Bud, Coors, Miller, Busch, Corona, etc. I'm talking craft beer. If you do not know what craft beer is, it's bigger, bolder, more flavorful beer made by micro breweries. It's "real beer." I drink craft beer for the taste. I love it. I collect beer from all over the country. I do not drink craft beer with the intention of drunkeness. I drink it for the passion for the taste and the tradition and history of beer. I like getting a buzz from something that tastes so good. However, I often wonder if I'm doing something wrong. Everything I find on Christianity and alcohol is either, A.) don't drink, it's a sin, or B.) drinking is ok if done in moderation. I drink in moderation, and like I said I do get a buzz, but I feel guilty about that buzz. I drink 1-3 beers at a time when I drink.
Also, I enjoy scotch. Again, not to get drunk, but because of the taste, tradition and history, and passion and respect I have for it. When I drink scotch, I drink about two fingers worth. Just enough for a slight buzz.
I'm not drinking these things in a party fasion, where my only intent is drunkeness.
Am I in the wrong? Or can I keep enjoying these things in moderation? |

What's non-Christ centered about beer as a hobby? If it's pleasurable for you and God doesn't forbid it... People sometimes blame alcohol or view drinking as sinful, on grounds that it is allegedly responsible for alcoholism.
This is stupid.
The problem is not in the bottle; it's in select persons drinking it.
Some people enjoy stuff; other people are enslaved to it because they worship it.
Are you a slave to your hobby? Is it ruining your relationship with God and others? If no, enjoy and say thank you to Jesus.
It's not so much a case of moderation as it is prioritization. You can idolize anything. For example, some people make loads of money but not everyone is Ebenzer Scrooge, if you know what I mean. If you love God and others, you are free to enjoy pleasure without using or neglecting either in order to get it.

you should not drink to get a buzz.
Are you mindful not to cause a weaker person to stumble?
Are you just as passionate about honoring the Lord and sharing the Good News of the Gospel as you are about drinking beer and Scotch?

But I believe in life we ALL to often find things to make us happy instead of looking at God. Some drink alcohol, some do drugs, some play games all the time, some look at porn. We all have our things that do to make ourselves feel better or happy. To me this is obviously a sin since our happness should be coming from looking at God and his love for us. Does this mean we shouldn't love things on earth? Of course not. After all when you marry you do so out of love! But loving things to the point of its all you do, then it can become dangerous.
I was a video game addict for most of my life. Spent a good 6-12 hours a day playing video games. Once I got rid of them I could see just how much I was using them to get through life instead of looking to God who REALLY can sustain my happyness! Yes like anyone else I still have moments where I get sad, but I can take joy in thinking about God. Heck just talking about heaven makes me so pumped! I no longer worry about needing things to make me happy on earth because all this is just temporary. I look forward to the future!
Although with that said I am madly in love at the moment with my fiance. ^.^

If you're not harming yourself or anyone else, and if it is not damaging your relationship with Christ... then I don't see what's wrong with it or why God would not be okay with it. |

What you have to ask yourself is first-how do you define "buzz"? I have several friends that couldn't stand up and say they weren't drunk but only "buzzed"! Second, when you get "buzzed", what are the things going through your mind? When I used to drink I would be very prideful and think of all my accomplishments(kind of like the Devil working in my head)- not the Lord.
I feel their is nothing wrong with your "hobby"-enjoy, we do have freedom in Christ ! I do, however, feel concerned with drinking until their is a "buzz". I think it to be wise to stop before then. That has the possibility of leading you off of your chosen path. |

thats why everyone who ever had a problem with it started, they like the buzz........if you were older, like in your 30's-40's I'd say no big deal, but considering your age I would imagine most of your friends do not drink as moderately as yourself, this is where I forsee a problem. bad company corrupts good character |

When I drink beer its more so because I enjoy the taste I don't drink to get a buzz. And if I feel a buzz thats my sign to stop drinking. I drink Hennessy and cranberry juice because my dead cousin used to drink it when I was younger sometimes when I drink it I remember the good times. But I have to drink it slowly because it is a strong drink if Im getting buzzed I am drinking to much.
I think your right that drink to get a buzz isn't correct.
Also we have to be careful about anything or one we are passionate. If you put anything before God your in for a sad reality check. |

Life is way too short and God gave us this gift of life to enjoy.
So if crafting beer makes you happy and no one is getting hurt, then enjoy. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
