Verses on Friendship

Okay, so to briefly put this I am trying to find a few verses with the theme of friendship. However I want to indirectly hit the topic of how marriage (in my opinion) is basically just a very strong and close friendship focused on God.

I am helping to lead a sermon (just a small thing for Sunday for a extended family retreat) and one of the relatives coming has just finalized his divorce due to their involvement in adultery and some other things. He is a Christian and thus we are under the same authority (God) and I am hoping to indirectly reach him during my portion of the sermon.

I can probably go on tandem topics if anyone can tie in other scriptures to help me, such as the topic of love/agape.

Thank you for any help! If you any further questions or need details please let me know.

John 15:12-15

Jesus called you friend. Friendship has a cost, it's your life. Jesus set the bar for actual friendship up to an including your life for your friend. In pop culture we use the word friend in such a casual way that it's not well understood today.

As for marriage, love is a decision. John 3:16 shows us the power of love as a decision. A man/woman can't keep love alive unless it's been decided in light of Romans 5:8. No matter how I am treated I will love my wife while she hates me. That's a decision, not an emotion.

Emotions will take you where you can't sustain yourself and your promises.

Lust and love are also not well understood in this age.

God bless

Receiving the spirit of God is a miracle, it's a gift given to those that have been allowed to see their lost condition and they cry out to the Lord: Romans 10:9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.
