I'm relatively new here to these boards, but I just wanted to reach out to you for some prayer requests.
I am very unhappy in my job right now. It is a commission/fee based financial services job, and even though I've done well, it's pretty bad right now, and I would love to pursue a graduate degree and be a professor. However, I'm not at peace yet about it, and there are definitely some fears associated with it.
Praying for guidance, wisdom, peace, career change in the name of Jesus Christ. Thank You Lord!

Hi there alt6119, while you're not liking the job, you made it clear that you've done well. Could you possibly stick with it and pursue the graduate degree? In essence, is it possible to do both, perhaps on part-time basis? I'm not familiar with how much time one might invest in obtaining a gratuate degree. I really pray that you will succeed in whatever you decide to to... blessings!
Praying that you will have peace about this and do well in your graduate degree.

Where there is hatred, grant that I may sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, unity; where there is doubt, faith; where there is error, Your truth and not my personal opinion; where there is despair, hope; where there is sadness, joy; where there is darkness, light. O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled by people here as to console them; to be understood by them, as to understand them; to be loved by them, as to love them: For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Hey ThyLovingKindness:
I really appreciate your feedback! It is impossible to do both at once. Because my job doesn't pay a salary, and I have quotas to meet every month, new clients to pursue, etc... it is truly a full time job. However, I could take one or two classes and be fine, but getting a PhD in Economics is a full time job. Most programs are set up where they give you a stipend in addition to tuition, because it's a heavy load. I will likely have to move several states away to pursue this, too.
I'm in the financial services industry - meaning, that it is very cutthroat. I have done a great job leveraging my contacts and servicing them well. However, my personality is really not fit for this business in the long run. I'm more of an introvert - meaning that even though I can go out and socialize, it doesn't energize me at all. Instead, it is very draining for me. I've done fine up until now, but I would like some stability in a job with a salary. I've come to the conclusion that working for commission and fees is not something I want to do. Are there tradeoffs? Yes. My point is that number wise, I've done very well in the business, but things are slowing down big time.
That being said, I'm giving myself to the end of the year to see how things go, and from my experience, God has always made things pretty obvious to me in terms of when and what direction to make a change. I have already made up my mind that I seek more stability in a job (not meaning that it is impossible to be fired! LOL!) in terms of having a salary in which I can budget more easily, etc...
My gifts have always been pretty academic, but I don't regret at all doing this for the past few years. It has been a very beneficial experience for me. I know it sounds bad, but I think that in order to be a financial advisor in the long run, besides outstanding gifts and talents, etc..., you better know a lot of rich people.
I grew up in an upper/middle class home. Frankly, even though I want to make a decent income, I don't have a desire to be a millionaire and chase the money for the rest of my life. Give me a great job that utilizes my skills and talents, and I shall be content and have a life outside of work. :-) Not to mention, I might be a wife and mother one day!

I'm new here too (as of yesterday) and I am so glad we both found this forum! I felt such a relief after my prayer request of yesterday. Anyway, I wanted to tell you I'm praying for you. I hope you find your path soon.
