The "research" was a survey of divorce lawyers at a convention in 2003.

Reason: clarity
Since she didn't cite a source I could find, I doubt it is actual research, but perhaps anecdotal observation. But when a figure gets passed around so much, it becomes truth even if it isn't.
It sounds as if you consider she should have disqualified herself from pronouncing on the matter. What' s the answer? People should stop repeating such figures (even when they're accurately cited!)? No. Your moment of truth was when you corrected my wildly inaccurate figure. After that, your comments have gone down hill. You should stop when you're ahead.

You replied before my edit. I merely suggest one carry a rather large grain of salt when "statistics" about human behavior are tossed around.

Because I feel conflicted about this whole issue, I have been staying away from nude images on the web. Well, except now I realize I failed to do that when I looked up references to Vatican nudes and artistic nudes. I guess that was an "oops."
But before this, the nude pictures I was looking at were no more erotic than National Geographic. No graphic poses or sexualized facial expressions. But there must have been some reason I was looking at them, instead of clothed images. So I'm not sure what to make of it.

Can understand your conflictedness over this.
Like FreakaZoid and others was addicted to viewing porn.
But have been free for about 2 yrs. now.
Bikini pics also entrap me. One night, thought I'd view some girls in bikinis... But some of those sites have hardcore pics and links and bam !! you're back to looking at porn.
So I don't even search for bikini pics anymore as I know that's playing with fire...

I don't have the same problem, exactly, but as a recovering alcoholic I don't even drink non-alcoholic mixed drinks. It's too close to the same idea to be safe, for me, and may trigger a desire for the real thing. However, I realize this doesn't mean non-alcoholic mixed drinks are wrong for everyone. Only me, and others in my situation. Therefore, I would not chastize someone else for drinking one.
