Although the kids are half American, I'm the one guilty of using Americanised terms.

Languages are always changing? But it's not as bad as the rising inflection? Or high rising terminal? It makes everyone sound like they're from Neighbours? It gives me brain rot? Ending each phrase in a question mark?

When you come to the Ammonites, do not
harass them or provoke them. Deut 2:19

Like, I totally hear you? *voice high pitched at end of this statement*
I forgot about that - didn't that start with the valley-girls in the 1980/90's?
I confess I'm guilty of that too...

Apparently, but I suspect it was probably saturation broadcasting of Neighbours, and Home and Away five days a week with repeats at the weekend that brought it over here.

I tend to find Americanisms really jar with me, although I'm probably guilty of using a few of them myself. I know that if ever we have children, I'm firmly committed to bringing them proper like what I wos, speaking the Queen's English.
Mind you, the whole cupcake/fairy cake thing...there is such a thing as a cupcake in Britain. It's not the same thing as a fairy cake, but I'm sure Mr Kipling used to them in the '70s...

Trying to follow Christ daily.
With heads uncovered swear we all
To bear it onward till we fall;
Come dungeons dark or gallows grim,
This song shall be our parting hymn.
So raise the scarlet standard high.
Beneath its folds we'll live and die,
Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,
We'll keep the red flag flying here.

My daughter pulls me up constantly. The latest thing is when I say "Bovver'd" to which she corrects me and slowly says "Bo-th-erred".
I didn't realise there was a cupcake in Britain unless it's the ones that are slightly larger than fairy cakes.
