Why hasn't the second coming occurred? Are there certain things that still need to be fulfilled?
The physical universe's creator is trapping/trapped spirit in matter and its up to Christ to save everyone.
Before this evil dark world (the physical universe) is destroyed ALL the hostages need to be secured.
I've believed that are spirit has been trapped in matter before and will be again. On the other hand spirit is infinite, and we won't be trapped again.
And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world (oikoumené) for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
(Matthew 24:14)
I find it odd no one else mentions Matthew 24 in this thread. He-man mentions 2 Peter 3:10, and with those two verses I base my theory.
Oikeó literally means " the inhabited".
A few ways to interpret oikoumené is, Rome, Earth, or the physical realm.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Here is my forty and two sense. Perhaps it came for the disciples in each their own appointed times and has continued to this time each in his or her own appointed times. Perhaps we simply must first truly believe the order in which it is delivered and written, and certainly we are called to have the patient endurance and faith of the saints. Perhaps for some it has indeed come and for others not yet because the Kingdom of God comes not with observation or ocular-visual evidence. Unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies it cannot bring forth fruit and the servant is not greater than the Master. The Word of Yeshua is Spirit and is delivered in perfect order when all of the Gospel accounts are combined into one; like the four levels of a four-story house, or a set of blueprints to a multi-level floorplan:
Matthew 24:4-14 KJV 4. And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8. All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. 10. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12. 1) Do not be deceived by spirit-breath-doctrines claiming to be Christ, (test the spirits). 2) Spiritual warfare and rumors of spiritual warfare, (machaira sword). 3) Ethnos-heathen UPON ethnos-heathen ~ dominion UPON dominion (Daniel 2) 4) Famines-fasts and earth-soil-body seismos-tremors. 5) These are the beginning of throes-pangs-sorrows-travails. 6) Then shall the anthropon man-faced-fierce-countenance deliver you to affliction. 7) THEN THEY SHALL APOKTEINO-KILL YOU! 8) You shall be hated by all the heathen for the sake of the name of Christ Yeshua. 9) Many false prophets shall arise, deception, and the love of many waxing cold. 10) But he that shall endure unto the consummation of the first age shall be saved. 11) This Gospel of the Kingdom shall be preached in all of YOUR habitable world for a witness against all the heathen dwelling with you and then shall the end of your age come, (remember Lot's wife; no turning back from this point forward: no man having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God, Luke 9:62).
12) It is a good thing these things are SPIRIT or no flesh should be saved.
Luke 17:20-24 KJV 20. And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with [GSN#3907 parateresis] observation: 21. Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. 22. And he said unto the disciples, The days will come, when ye shall desire to see one of the days of the Son of man, and ye shall not see it. 23. And they shall say to you, See here; or, see there: go not after them, nor follow them. 24. For as the lightning, that lighteneth out of the one part under heaven, shineth unto the other part under heaven; so shall also the Son of man be in his day.

The Kingdom of God comes not with inspection or ocular-visual evidence. Read Luke Chapters 17&21 as if they were ''bookends'' containing the Olivet Discourse because the Luke account intentionally splits the passage, (which is surely the companion passage to Matthew 24 and Mark 13). The careful reader will discover by comparison, in prayer, and with an open heart and mind; that Matthew 24 and Mark 13 fit in between Luke 17 and Luke 21 as if the Luke passages were ''bookends'' encompassing the apocalyptic Olivet Discourse. In Luke 21 we then read of the very same Kingdom of God and it concerns the same parable of the fig tree:
Luke 21:28-30 KJV 28. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. 29. And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30. When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. 31. So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.
And again the Kingdom of God cometh not with ocular-visual evidence ~ Neither shall they say; See here! or See there! For the Kingdom of God is within you …
