Sometimes, shows can steal you away from the Lord and your time with Him. Be careful about the messages that the shows are trying to put into you. |

I think it's different for everyone; you need to figure out what you can handle and what you can't. Personally, I know there's no movie, TV show or book that's going to make me engage in adultery or worship a false god. However, there are some shows that will lead my thoughts into the gutter, such as Family Guy, so I don't watch them anymore.

"While what we call 'our own life' remains agreeable we will not surrender it to Him. What then can God do in our interests but make 'our own life' less agreeable to us, and take away the plausible source of false happiness?"

No.
Pietism isn't an orthodox Christian theology. There's plenty of sexual immorality in the Holy Writ, so by the same line of thinking, you shouldn't read that either. That is why Pietism is unorthodox; it is self-defeatest and ultimately results in the loss of pure Christian religion.
Furthermore, bringing up Thor is strange, since, if you actually were to get the context of the movies (which derive from the Marvel comic universes), the Norse "deities" are clearly alien beings and not truly spiritual beings.

Frances Schaeffer was an advocate of using culture to examine and expose the worldview being presented and then preparing an informed Christian response. This was what Paul did at Athens when he quoted from a poem dedicated to Zeus.

We kicked Cable TV to the curb over 3 yrs. ago...I watch some shows online but not many.
I like Thor, I don't worship him though.
Too much junk for isn't good for you and the same goes for "feeding"
yourself too much secular stuff.

It's important to have self control with things like tv and computer.
Personally, I have no interest in tv. I got rid of my tv signal years ago and I don't miss it one bit. I have netflix but I usually feel like I'm wasting time watching tv shows.
I would just question what is more important to you - spending time with/doing things for God or watching immoral behaviour in dramas on tv? (No judgement here, just something to consider) |

I was just thinking today that perhaps the reason I didn't get a very good education (bullying robbed me of concentration), and therefore no decent job prospects and not being accepted by popular groups etc was not as I once thought,God forgetting me but rather, the Lord's faithfullness in trashing anything and everything that could prevent me from eventually coming to him.
That is why "Great is thy faithfullness" is my favourite.

I think: why ask us when the Bible gives you a perfectly plain answer? Philippians 4:8 8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.
You might be surprised at how often the Bible has a straightforward answer to your questions.
