Can we just do whatever we want?
What does it all mean?
Jesus died for all the sins of all men for all time.
The sin issue on God's side has been given a remedy in Christ.
On our side we must accept the terms of God's remedy in Christ.
At first it appears as a straight forward transaction.
We admit our guilt and humble ourselves before God in Christ
and we exchange our righteousness that is like filthy rags for
the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus that is like a spotless
white robe of Christ's right standing before God that we put on
as a covering for our own filthy rags.
God no longer sees our sins and failures but He sees His son Jesus
in whom He is well please. Now for your question....
I have never know a man who has accepted Christ into his heart
who after receiving such a wonderful gift of a pardon for sin
and eternal life, dive back into sin and push the limits of God's grace
without suffering severely as he feels the weight of his betrayal
of God's gift given to him in Christ.
People want to bring this hypothetical up and make the mercy and grace of
God appear as a license to sin have missed the most important part of
the earlier transaction I have outlined which is THE RELATIONSHIP.
God wants more that just to pardon us and give us eternal life, God wants
us to enter into a wonderful and intimate relationship based in love and TRUST.
As in any relationship it has to have a beginning and then a process of growth
ensues and if both parties are willing, the relationship will bloom
and move toward maturity.
So...who enters into a relationship with the goal of deep love and
trusting fellowship with thoughts of "how can I betray my love" or
"how selfish can I be and keep this going" or "how many times can
I hurt and shame my love and keep the relationship"?
The relationship restrains us. The love that we come to know and experience in Christ compels us to please Him and to find out what His likes and dislikes are and to adjust our actions and life to please Him.
Those that come into a relationship with Christ and have thoughts of
"what can I get away with", I think, is a hypothetical myth that
do not exist.
Those that truly have come to Christ and begin a relationship with Him
and do not turned away, will never in their hearts seek to pursue
sin to its limits just to see how far they can pervert their relationship with Christ.

You go from a taker to a lover.
You fall into GRACE - it comes especially quickly to scumbags not necessarily the church goer.
You can leave grace by putting yourself under the law again. (that is basically the entire message to the christians in the book of Galatians).
Living under the law produces the curse because only JESUS frees us.
Here is a key scripture, explaining what this "GRACE" will do:
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age Titus 2:11-12
Note: You must be taught this!

So you're saying that as Christians we don't sin?
Just want to make sure that I am hearing you correctly.

So the Law was for Gentiles too?
Unless there are a different set of laws for Gentiles than for Israel.
What might those be and where might they be found?

No, what I suggest is that sin is something we manifest in our own lives through unrighteousness. It's not a law to be broken, it is a symptom of not loving God and not loving one another. Love dosen't manifest sin. That's why it is written that love is the fullfillment of the law. Not by following the letter of the law, but by following the law that is written on our hearts.
We don't need a law to know when we have done wrong because He wrote His laws on our hearts. The Spirit will let us know and we can hear Him because He gave us a new heart. When we judge sin or try to decide whether this or that is sin, based on the letter of the law, we put ourselves back under the law and thus will be judged by the law. We are no longer under Grace because we have walked away from love in exchange for the law. And since God is love, that means we have walked away from God. |

Thank you for the clarification.
