is it wrong?

I like metal where singing is growling and u hit hard those drums etc. Sometimes I try myself sing those songs when I listened it couple times, but when I go to lyrics there is satanic stuff. Well, I dont believe to god but sometimes I do a short pray where Im sorry if I had done something bad. Few times I also asked sign if u are there, dont know what I shoud believe or just be atheist, like everybody in my country. Also when I listen those songs I dont take thougts or believe in their message. Either I dont understand a word what they are saying cause of that growling, and Im not from a english speaking country. For example behemoth, I like way they sound but dont understand anything. But if I would be christian, would it be wrong to listen any band even if it hates god as christian if u dont believe in their religion?

A couple of thoughts:

1. If a person is a Christian, I tend to think that lyrical content is an issue that is between that person and God. The Bible offers guidelines for actions and living--less so guidelines for media consumption. So it boils down to how a person reacts to immoral ideas in creativity. Some Christians can consume it, no problem... others can't.

2. That said, there are lots of good Christian metal bands with growly vocals... so if a Christian feels like they shouldn't listen to the blasphemous stuff, they don't have to give up on the genre completely.

3. If a person can't understand the lyrics, then it's not really a problem. (Some people will argue otherwise... but I personally think that music in a language that cannot be understood by the listener is basically instrumental music.)

My question is this. Why do bands like that even bother to have lyrics? I mean, if no one can understand the singer, what's the point? Why not just have him/her stand up there and growl. No one would no the difference.

There are different types of growls, each singer's growl is different and some are easier to understand than others. Moreover, after you've listened for a while and/or have read the lyrics it is easier to understand what they're saying. Anaal Nathrakh don't publish lyrics but it is more or less obvious that they're singing and not just growling. Everyone would notice the difference unless they're growling nonsense as if they were really saying something but then again that would still be some sort of nonsensical speech that could be written down in lyrics.

OP: As far as I'm concerned, I decided not to support anything that is openly satanic or anti-Christian. If on metal archives, for instance, in the lyrical themes there is satanism, racism, etc. I just don't listen to it, I broke my Watain's CD into pieces not too long ago lol. Suggestion for any Christian metal fan: You should look up your bands there (on metal archives) and the lyrics are available too so you can know what they're singing about in more details.
