So someone said that if this were true, it would be no more problematic than guns that shoot bullets. Would this weapon require a direct hit to work, or would it have blanket coverage of an area?

I do not know if it is true or not, but dr. Judy Wood does put on a good possibility that it could be true.
If anyone said they developed weapons that use direct energy and could disintegrate a building, they would be called a conspiracy nut
The Navy is already putting the finishing touches on a DEW for taking out planes and missiles. Won't be long before you see them on their ships. Anyone who thinks that lasers are some imaginary sci fi weapon must not have been paying any attention for the last 30 years. I've never seen one disintegrate a whole building though. That would take a lot of energy.

That is nonsense. The gun that they have developed for crowd control works off of microwaves. They also have weapons they use on cruise ships that work off of sound waves. They are designed to chase people off without killing them or doing any lasting damage.
