As God hates divorce, not likely. But of course, He doesn't desire that we should stay in an abusive marriage, but there's no evidence that's the case here. In fact, it is likely they let the opposing doctrines of their churches dictate this divorce, and that too is unbiblical, but that is also a guess. A divorce is a sign one or both parties has chosen to ignore God's will for marriage. That makes "judgment" (which is actually "fruit inspection") fairly easy. Originally Posted by Incariol My "salvation experience"(tight buzzwords broski) doesn't mean I have to be stupid.
Naw, you make it too easy. Not biting. |

That about sums it up for me too. I was baptized as an infant and, of course, had no understanding of what that meant. As an adult at the age of 32 and a new Christian, I knew what baptism was and wanted to be baptized in obedience and accordance with New Testament practice.

But I self-righteous soapboxing on how some people aren't True Christians(TM) is more fun. I would have agreed to you when I was a pompous 12-year old and before I got to see it firsthand in my own family. But you are old enough that you should know better, and I find that concerning.
not sure how "trusting God" and garbage could possibly be used in the same sentance, but this is why every Christian marriage fails, because God and garbage have reached the same level of respect, when you nolonger respect God and your spouse, your marriage will be garbage |

That's a pretty good piece of philosophy there, and since I've been divorced I guess you are saying I hadn't respected God nor my spouse and my marriage was garbage.
Odd though, I recall that my wife went to an attorney, filed legal papers to the court, and got herself a divorce. In court (Georgia 1990), it only takes one to file. And no matter how much one spends to fight it, the court will grant the divorce sooner or later. Question is how much does one want to spend to prolong the inevitable outcome.
I certainly wish I was one of you folks who have had everything nice, but in the real world where I live, things seem to work out differently. |

I can agree with that, most kids don't understand. It's the mother in this thread that I take issue with. She went against the court, put her pastor/priest into question by preforming a baptism, all because of what, a hardened heart acting out in vindictiveness.
This isn't no life/death situation that required immediate attention. |

Hey, not my fault. If you seriously want to lecture divorced couples on how they don't respect God, be my guest. Let me know how that works out for you.
But I wouldn't be standing in arm's reach when you give that speech to a woman who got a divorce rather than put up with domestic abuse if I were you. |

But in both denominations the children must attend a catechism, and then consciously agree to the articles of faith in order to become members of the church (baptism does not confer membership). I think there's something else going on here between the father and mother besides a difference of opinion over baptism. |

No, the Methodist Church does not practice infant or child baptism, unless the child is able to consciously determine that he needs a Savior and He is Jesus Christ. What you see in Methodist churches, just as in Baptist churches, is a "child dedication" ceremony, where parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and other family members gather at the front of the church and promise to lead this child in the ways of the Lord. There is no water dripped or rubbed on the child's forehead.
The father in the incident linked by the OP is defending the biblical truth of not allowing baptism in someone too young to have heeded the call of Christ through the Holy Spirit. Baptism being a testimony, an infant or young child cannot testify to something he or she does not understand. The Methodists believe this is biblically proper, as do many other denominations. |

Yes, methodists generally do practice infant baptism. A few particular groups may not.

You can't be rebaptised. Either you were baptised as a child, or you were baptised as an adult.
In fact the former is true - what you did as an adult was not actually a baptism.
