The Alpha course, your thoughts.

Hi,

In a few weeks I will be starting the alpha course. It is being run by my corps but due to the time it is on and work I can't attend so I am going to one run by a different church.

Has anyone done the alpha course? Is it useful?

There seems to be a lot of praise about it and also a lot of negativity.

The church we attend ran two different programs by alpha. The Newf. and I attended both.

To tell you the truth, I was not impressed with either one. He seemed to be in favor of social drinking and also attending ballroom dancing.

The time of discussion didn't go well in either case. Everybody had their view and what usually happens in such discussion, there was no final biblical conclusion in the small group meetings because people were afraid of offending others. No real time for people to accept the Lord.

There seemed to be a lot of excitment when it first came to the core but I didn't hear anything about anyone getting saved. When the second program show up the attendance dropped some what.

To me the Alpha bordered on Liberalism. It was an expensive program that had little value over all and money could have been better spend by bring in an Evangelist who preached the gospel and had old time alter calls.
