Samsung Galaxy Tablet 64GB with 3G- approx price 720 AUD
Acer Tablet?
or Apple Ipad 2?
I love the keyboard on my netbook Acer Aspire. I got it used for under $160. I like the Windows compatibility and stability.
I added an after market battery pack and have over 12 hours of use. I really needed that option.

So do you need Windows? If that's the case, you'll have to get the Samsung or Acer and hack the development version of Windows 8 onto it. Otherwise, I would recommend an ASUS Transformer TF300. It has an optional keyboard dock that will essentially turn it into a netbook -- best of both worlds!

I do tend to go with Apple products as they end up being the standards in thier categories.
If you get Apple things everything you own works together beautifully and keeps on working for years.
In saying that Samsung products have come along really impressively and I would consider one of thier android phones if it was better than the coming iPhone 5.
Check out the features and make sure you don't buy something you need to put 3rd party security software on (like windows for instance).
But if you also get Apple, you have outdated hardware, a completely locked OS where you can't even access the file system, no USB ports at all and a very high price tag... Just sayin'

I went fir the Google Nexus 7 with the extra memory ($250) and I love it. It has the size of the original Kindle Fire, but with the resolution of the original iPad. With the new Jelly Bean Android, the graphics are really snappy.
The newly-announced Kindle Fire HD does not have the GPS that the Nexus has, nor some of the Google apps.
This tablet is a lot easier to carry around and hold than the iPad.
