...Is he right or wrong?
I was loaded for bear when I heard a clip (on the radio) of Chris Matthews saying, what sounded to me, that Catholics and Mormons were “cultists.” However, as I examined the clip further on my own, and heard it in context, I discovered that his comment, while still bigoted, had to be understood differently. Chris Matthews says Evangelicals see Catholics (and Mormons) as cultists. Is he right or wrong?

Anyway, do you disagree with what Mr Matthews says in the OP and if so, why?

I watched his show and the context in which he made the comment. He was being light hearted. Clearly saying that it was far more prevelent in past times and that it was a minority of evangelicals in the likes of alabama and Louisiana.
He was referring to the irony of the plight of the Southern Evangelical who has the choice of a Mormon and two Catholics for their nominee against the Muslim...  |

I certainly object to his referring to Mormonism *and* Catholicism as cults and people just trying to choose between cults so they can "get a Muslim out of office". And his referring to a "bigotted religious "stew".
