Poll: Carter 63, Reagan 32 | PoliPundit.com

Poll: Carter 63, Reagan 32

The upset that everyone saw but the media didn't want to acknowledge.

What problem then does Obama also have?
Gas prices.

The right is uncutting each other, while Obama basks in the sunlight, sniping at the candidates when he sees a good target.
When the spotlight on all his un-Constitutional actions, his numbers will fall.
Federal mandate of healthcare, NDAA (indefinate detainment of any person(citizen or not), etc.

Also He is under 50% approval rating(and dropping as gas prices rise), and unemployment is well over 7%, both have never or rarely gotten re-elected in each situation, let alone both.

6 trillion more debt, What would it have been if the Congress of "NO" was alittle more agreeable?

is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced.(but) in my hometown of Chicago, there’s an awful lot of violence, and they’re not using AK-47s, they’re using cheap handguns.”
Obama makes it known, he will work to ban assault weapons and handguns.

But none of the likely Republican candidates are Ronald Reagan. Each one has major negatives of his own. Which will also be spotlighted when he's nominated.

My personal opinion is that the Republicans have pretty much torpedoed themselves with 2 very important demographics--women, and Hispanics. Obama won 56% of women voters in 2008. Arguably, this was his margin of victory. And if anything, the gender gap looks even worse this year. Hispanics are the fastest growing demographic, though they don't always register to vote. But they can make a big difference when they do vote. The quite unpopular Harry Reid kept his Senate seat in 2010 largely because Sharron Angle gave Hispanics the 3rd finger salute. And they will only become more and more important in the future. Republicans cannot win the Presidency without broadening their base. But so far, they seem to be doing exactly the opposite.

Every re-elected incumbent of the last 40 years has had an approval rating under 50% at some point prior to elections during their second-term election year.

Although as already pointed out nether Santorum or Romney, which unlike Reagan, neither are really coming off a sequence of political wins with Romney running from his record. They both have track record which appears isn't energizing the base, but I get your point.

But on the flip side Reagan never had a TV network that was a arm of his party telling everyone the opposite of their apologies of Bush when gas prices were high. Bush; "he had no power"...Obama "it's all his fault."
