Creation & EvolutionForum for the discussion of this important topic. This forum is open to non-believers. There is a Christians-only forum in the Christians-only section too.
It was my best friend's room-mate, LorentzHa. Sorry, I suppose I should have been more clear on that. I believe that my room-mate last year was a Creationist, and I know my current one is.
As I said, I just left the room after hearing them say what they did.
No problem, you did mention that, I was just trying to simplify it for the post. I still stand by my disappointment of not meeting him first!
You are a much more patient person than I am...I have trouble walking away from ignorance. I try to "cure it" and then become bitter when it does not work....oh well, live and learn.

I wish we could report posts for being illogical and/or non-sensical.
But then they would get banned and there would be no Creationists to "debate" with

I think that Joel (my best friend's room-mate) was concerned for my soul when he heard that I had no problem with evolution being correct. He probably though that I was an atheist, even though I was not, nor am I now.
I have told my best friend that I believe in God, but that isn't good enough for him. He demands a strict interpretation of the Bible from me.
I utterly refuse to think or believe something just because of popular opinion. Anyone who would should be ashamed of themselves.

I know creationists, kinda hard not to when you grew up in a backwards Texas town with 1 stop light on a street nobody uses. Although I rarely if ever discuss religion with anybody so it's never come up, not even at college. Kinda wish it would come up just so I could pwn em.
Never really talked with them until I came here, then my faith in humanity was crushed.
Well, capt'n, i would say to stay here with us and learn how to make that trunk of "proof" just go "poof".
I bet the only thing in the trunk is an oversized Bible.
Captain: What's that? Best friend's room-mate: Proof, that there is no evolution.

Repeat those last two sentences ad infinitum. He just didn't seem able to grasp the concept. This was worrying because we both go to a grammar school. (special state schools for the top 10% or so)
Well I'm ashamed to admit that I believed in creationism while at grammar school and only rejected it completely in the final year (which is when I came here I think). The reason being was because I assumed creationism=Christianity and evolution=atheism, but it was pointed out to me by lucaspa, seebs, etc that this is not the case and it made sense onc they presented their arguement. I actually wanted to accept evolution because of the undeniable evidence but I feared it would mean losing my faith. Luckily the only thing I lost my faith in is creationists. It also made sense to me how my biology teacher could be both a Christian and accepted abiogenesis and evolution (I was puzzled when he implied he accepted those theories when I was a creationist).
We need a greater focus on evolution during GCSE (the last compulsory science education level)
True, we only learnt about adaptation for GCSE, which is kinda like microevolution I think.
It wasn't until the final year we were taught about evolution and even then the teacher didn't call it that until she had finished teaching it, she just taught "mechanisms of change" or something and told us at the end "that's basically evolution".
