I guess it'd be important to define worship. I define it as the act of giving glory, honor, and/or praise to someone or something. In the Christian's case, it's usually giving glory, honor, and praise to God. This is very important but of course does not clean a person of sin, usu. Christian worship is because only God can remove sin, and we believe He will remove our sin. Praise God!

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged . One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

Look up every form of the word "sing" in the Bible, and every form of "music", and you will find a large number of scriptures. I find it very interesting that before God took Moses from the Israelites, the last task he had him do was.... to teach them a song. I think there is spiritual power in music and singing that is beyond our earthly ability to comprehend, and that God gave this power to us to wield as we "uproot and tear down, destroy and overthrow, build and plant" and establish the Kingdom of God.

Not once in the 3 words translated in the old testament and the 6 words in the new, is worship ever associated with music or singing. And of the 7 words in the old testament and the 9 words in the new, the word 'praise, is once in the old and twice in the new associated with singing. And the old testament word and one of the new testament words both refer to a choir. By far, praise is speaking praise and bearing testimony.
God is not against either music and singing, but we need to understand that goosebumps, waving of hands and a prayerful face has nothing to do with true worship.
Obedience is the 'currency' of the kingdom. Obedience identifies us as sheep in his flock. Obedience is the highest calling. It is true worship. |

It's not just a performance, not a warm up before the teaching service, it's an intricate and crucial ministry in itself. Somebody defined worship as 'kissing the face of God' and indeed it is. This is why anybody involved in the worship ministry needs to be truly anointed by the Holy Spirit to do this amazing work. Worship is our special time with the Lord, when he is closest to us, it is one of the greatest gifts we can give him. He does not need our strength, or our intelligence, or our beauty, or our possessions - these things he created and blessed us with. But our genuine love, praise, and glory are something he cherishes, and holds very close to his heart that bears FOR YOU!
Worship is not an event though, it is a lifestyle to be lived. Everything we do, we must do to glorify our Creator and Savior. Yes, everything, even the simplest and most mundane things, like cleaning or gardening. We were called to praise Him!
