What is it he does that makes him THAT valuable to keep, in light of the disrespect he shows for the company and you? Not a thing, IMO. I think if anything you will benefit greatly from his departure.
If he asks why, be honest about it- you've given him chance after chance to follow company rules. But he has yet to comply. If he can't follow orders, he can look for a job elsewhere.
Rules are there for a reason and if he cannot be trusted to obey the simple rules you have for him, then whatever it is you provide security for is compromised.
So who is more important? Him or your clients? |

Problem is I'm just an account supervisor and I don't have the authority to fire anyone. I've complained endlessly about him so all I can do now is keep writing him up and keep complaining about him and maybe someone will finally get the message he needs to go.
What is AFAIC? |

You are a real piece of work. You really have an cynical attitude towards employees don't you. What makes you so special??? Wait, I will tell you...,Absolutely Nothing, period. In your arrogance, you may delude yourself into thinking that you are better than certain people, but you really are not.
I don't completely disagree with you but it is your attitude that annoys me. Yes I get it..., It is all about the money. Please don't identify yourself as an christian, because your postings don't reflect that. You make the rest of us Christians look bad.

I would keep writing him up every time you see him like that. Giving consideration to how much time and labor it is expected to take to change his err. If it's something he could go to the mens room and resolve in 5 minutes, I'd write him up every time I saw him. No less than twice a day.
Written reprimands stay on his work record. You've given more than enough verbal demands In My Opinion.

So your solution is to let him continue to ignore his superiors who tell him to improve his performance, who tell him he needs to wear the full uniform, to stop ignoring his responsibilities and to let him continue looking like a slob and? Just so he could continue to be a bad example for the company? |

I am a supervisor myself; I have staff shout at me, show me their angry face (current) all because I am trying to get them to do their job.
Unfortunately for me, the boss loves to favour certain workers; & this fellow gets away without contributing his share of the work.
There is nothing I can do, if I bring up the matter with the boss, the boss tells me off & threatens me with demotion. I think this is against labour laws. But, there you go.
If you bosses listens to you and do not favour that employee over you, I think your job is much easier.
Talk to the guy and find out what is on his mind. Explain to him in a way that he understands that putting on a tie is not your request but the clients' requirement.
Probably it might get through and the worker will stop rebelling. Good luck. |

I think it's more laziness than rebelling or anything else. I think now it's just getting enough paperwork (written reprimands) in order to show that replacing him is the only option. Interesting thing is when I presented him with his second and latest write up he did admit it was his fault. But he hasn't shown any improvement except that he waits for the important people to leave before he takes his tie and jacket off. Interesting that. |

Well, No I would not. I would request a sit down. I don't know what your company policies except for what you tell in your posts. To me from what you tell, they have a write up procedure, but that is in place mainly to intimidate people, and they have no real follow up procedures in place. Either that or your not respected at your company.
When I say sit down, I mean a meeting with the department manager and the person who you seem to think is doing something wrong and come to a solution, and to listen to his argument to why he doesn't have to follow company policy... because, I don't care how flat you make a pancake, there is always going to be two sides to it. Perhaps he just doesn't respect you.
But I would request a sit down, perhaps at this sit down you can show the accumulated reprimands , because writing him up doesn't seem to be producing the outcome that you desire to befall on you fellow co-worker. |
