I don't know how many of you have hard of Mark Driscoll, the pastor of Mars Hill church in Seattle, but I watched a video of him on YouTube calling yoga "satanic" because of its hindu origins.
My question is: for you, what is the line between something that is secular vs. something that is satanic or demonic?
In my opinion, yoga is not something to be classified as satanic but rather just secular. Secular things can be redeemed by God but Satanic things cannot.

Well using Mark Driscoll as an example .
Satanic is when he makes Satan look like a superhero by the way he presents God .
Demonic is theology that wires the brain in a way that is enabling towards demon possession .
It's hard to say if Mark Driscoll is just a jerk or if he's possessed by a devil or not . but either is plausible .

"The only thing that matters is faith expressing itself through love" (Galatians 5:6) God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. (1 John 4:16-18) -Michael Collum

1. My friend's a she.
2. She's the expert, not you, especially not with that sort of Manichean theology.
I do "practice" yoga, at my home. I don't call it yoga because it is only stretching, nothing else.
Ask her what else should I do besides stretching. When she starts to say something like: ... concentration ..., then you know what I am talking about. |

There's a word for this... Ask her what else should I do besides stretching. When she starts to say something like: ... concentration ..., then you know what I am talking about.
I have; your accusations are baseless and, given the above, hypocritical.
This debate is therefore logically over by self-contradiction and false witness.
OP, my initial post in this thread is what you should go by, as well as those posts which are in equal agreement. We together are telling you the truth.

What did she say? When you maintain a position for an extended period of time (longer and longer through practice), what does your mind do during that period of time?
Practicing yoga makes you go away from God, for whatever reason. It is much more than just a physical exercise. |

yoga—demon possession. Philippians 2:5 says, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:" To open your mind in meditation to a series of pagan gods and occult powers is Satanic. This is strictly forbidden in the Bible.

"Yoga is opening the door to Satanic influence. Each pose is tuning the body, glands and psychic nervous system and a dangerous access to spiritual forces of darkness is provided".
5. Yoga is deceiving as:
5.1 It is no religion, all are welcome.
5.2 Little effort is required. Exercises such as "dead pose" are more attractive than strenuous exercises.
5.3 No skill is necessary .

As Galatians exposits it disconnects you from fellowship with the Holy Spirit and makes you so anemic .. that by the time the law magnifies sin into death into devil (as is written) . you're powerless to do anything but run .
so in demonizing other forms of spirituality . don't let yourself get cut off from the source of life by replacing God with a book.

I would rather use the word demonic, then satanic, when I think of satanic, I think of a cult. Yoga is of demonic roots, If you take a sour apple, and add lots of sugar, the original apple was still sour, you may have changed the flavor but it was still a sour apple.
Example: have you heard of reiki? its origin is Japan
its a healing exercise, well its witchcraft, lots of christians do partake in it
The fine line of knowing the difference of God versus demons, is discernment, stay close to God, ask Him for increased discernment, HE will actually point things out to you.
When ever you enter into things that are unknown, the Holy Spirit will warn you, if you ask. Ask Jesus to cover you in His blood when entering unknown territories, blessings! |
