What was your chrismation name?

If it's not too personal, what was the chrismation name you chose? I'm thinking a lot about it. My middle name is Joseph and I love the husband of Mary a great deal. But I also am drawn to Maximos the Confessor. I'm blown away at how his tongue was cut out, his hand cut off by the powers that be to silence his orthodoxy in moments of heresy ruling the day. But I also like so many other saints.

How did you choose yours?

My birth name is the name of a saint, so I kept that as my name when I was chrismated - Joel. I felt that going by another name when I had the option to continue to use my birth name would be dishonoring to my parents, and I felt that it would be dishonoring to the Holy Prophet Joel.

If you already have a Christian name, isn't it usually that? You have already been dedicated to St. Joseph. Why do you need to be chrismated Maximos, over and above getting an icon of him and praying to him?

Are you getting close to chrismation gurney?

Mine is Anna, I was raised Catholic and that is what I was baptized. My parents prayed to St. Anna for a daughter after having 6 boys, so for me to change it would have upset my family and would have been disrespectful to St. Anna since my parents' prayers had been answered. It seemed like a good idea stay with her and a very bad idea to test if the Lord would be understanding about my telling his grandmother that I no longer wanted her as my Patron Saint.

Your question gives me great joy on an otherwise sad weekend.

I first began to question my Evangelical presuppositions after reading I Clement. He was also a pope of Rome (my wife is RC), and a well loved saint in the ROC.

My Chrismation saint is Clement of Rome.

Mine is Joseph, which you know lol. At the time of my Chrismation I had thought that my first name wasn't a Saint, and neither is my middle name. Joseph had been my Confirmation name as a Roman Catholic (well, one of them), so it stuck around for Chrismation. I chose him because I'd like to have his dedication and instant-response time to God's Will, and because I always wanted to be as good a husband and father as he.

My fiancee went from Stacia to Anastasia. Not a big leap, neither in meaning or spelling really. Her (Protestant) parents had named her for the Resurrection anyway, so she just uses the full name for Sacraments.

How is "Stacia" a Resurrection name?...

Her given name is a shortened version of "Anastasia." At least, that's what her parents named her for, so that's the meaning it has.

It doesn't have to be. And I didn't say that I was definitely going with that name. My mom gave me Joseph as a middle name. And it was in the Catholic Church. I don't have to be chrismated to pray to a saint. I never implied that I had to be???

Just asking people about their names, no big woop

Hmm, fair enough. I guess I just don't see the connection.
