responding to "only women have a say in abortion discussion" mentality

I saw this comment on Facebook today: "But as far as I, and most women, are concerned, if you don't have a vagina, your opinion on abortion doesn't really matter, at all."

I wasn't part of the discussion, but it I was really interested in this comment. It's wrong on so, so many levels, but it made me think: how do you get through to someone who thinks like this? This is not the first time I've seen someone suggest that men have no business giving their opinions on abortion. Obviously for us, an injustice is an injustice and you ought to care about the babies being killed whether you will ever carry one or not, but how do we defend men's place in the debate, particularly to these individuals who are so entrenched in the "her body, her decision" mentality?

Simple, you let good women of God take up the cause for you. Time spent arguing that men should have a say in what becomes of their children could be spent (by a woman) arguing that life begins at conception and deserves protection. That is where we must focus our argument.

Abortion isn't wrong because women often regret their abortions.

Abortion isn't wrong because images of aborted babies are shocking.

Abortion isn't wrong because men deserve a say.

Abortion isn't wrong because women shouldn't be having sex if they don't want children.

Abortion isn't wrong because liberals...

Abortion isn't wrong because it sometime injures the mother.

Abortion is wrong because it is the taking of a human life when it isn't necessary to do so. That is where our fight has to be, and that is where we need to take it. Everything else is tangential and takes the focus off the real issue.

Mike's first sentence...if a woman is that hard - then let another woman stand up for men and paternity.

It is their child too.

And life is life... and women do not have the right to chose to end someone elses life, because women are not God. Nor did they create that life alone.

Matthew Chapter 7

7 "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."

I have to admit that I get frustrated with this.

Yes, the woman does all the work - she bears the child, deals with the difficulties and dangers of pregnancy, she goes through the birth, and she is the main caregiver. But that child is also the man's kin. He may very well want to raise the child if the woman doesn't, even cutting all ties with her if she wants. But to the vast majority of pro-choicers, he doesn't matter. He is a sperm donor, and nothing more. How dehumanising.

I will say that if you are a man, you just cannot know what it is like to stare a pregnancy scare in the face, or to realise that something is growing inside you, or to experience the hormones and the pains and whatever else. You have no idea what it is like. But that doesn't disqualify the fact that the child is yours as well as the woman's.

Without the man, there would be nothing to abort in the first place.

What you say here is true. But a graphic picture can get a person to stop and think about why abortion is wrong when they might not have thought about it before that. I became Pro-Life the instant I saw what an abortion actually is. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Jared , don't buy the point of view that because your not X, you have no right to comment. I have heard that admonition used by Woman, Blacks, Irish, Russian, et al.

Jared , if we don't speak up the Stones will cry out. We are called to spread the word in love. Don't accept the lie that only woman or Men or anyone else has the monopoly to speak the truth.

"As far as I'm concerned" says it all.

One women made one Facebook comment. Without a shred of evidence, she indicated that "most women" agreed with her.

And everyone's riled up about it.

As far as I'm concerned she's one person speaking for one person--herself.

I don't think her opinion is representative of a majority of women.

Most women don't want abortions. Most young women probably want safe, extremely effective, affordable birth control. They want it to be so effective that abortion will never be an issue in their lives.

That's what I wanted when I was a young, non-churchgoing woman and I don't think times have changed that much.

How about safe and affordable abstinence or is that not deemed cool and /or acceptable among the pseudo intellectuals who raise their children as if they were little animals ?

I don't buy into the men not having a say nonsense. The baby is just as much THEIR baby as the child is the woman's. If a woman is trying to kill her child, that man has EVERY RIGHT to fight her on that.
