Had a bit of a scare about my planting plans for this year. I'd ordered 10 benchgrafts from Kuffel Creek:

Sent in my order by mail and had not heard anything and with things slow I went onto their site yesterday and saw a banner saying they were sold out for the 2012 season. I was not sure if my order made it in time so I sent off an email. Today I had the responce, I got my order in in time!
I strongly reccomend that anyone considering a few apple trees in California or nearby consider thsi site. They have over 100 varieties and they are only ones they have tested or are testing. They do discontinue varieties they find fail in the hot of SoCal.
The "downside" is that the minimum order is 10 benchgrafts. The offset is the price is $10 per tree (Sometimes plus $1 if they have to pay licensing, of my 10 one cost teh extra $1). At thsi time shipping is a flat $15, pretty reasonable.
My order has a few hard to find varieties and some classics. Trees first creates in at least 5 different countries. One is names "Hollow Log" which I got mainly for the ripening time (But I think hte name is cool). Also one named Hawaii, which is a roayal pain to find as searches with apple and hawaiii get burried in computer stores in Hawaii.
Oh and a side note significant for this board, this is a one man show and the owner is one of the very few who manages to make it clear that he is Christian, talks a bit about apple trees being wonderously designed, but does not seem (at leat to me) to be starting down the 'I'm Christian you should buy from me road.
I found the site a few years ago, been working on getting enough spots ready (they will be on a hill and there is lots of prep work for each 'hole'). Back then the only reference was his obvious enthusiasm for apples. Since then I've found that Dave Wilson Nursury has a link to his site.
