does that help? Anyplace that does chronic pain management, inclusing alternatives like acupunture, should be familiar with it.

Thank you Anessa; it was late when I read your post and I'm afraid I didn't think to do something as simple as search on Google..
I had a look myself and found the results of a double-blind study that make it sound very promising (the link, if anyone should be interested, is
edit ). By chance I actually have an appointment with my specialist on Thursday so I've forwarded the information to him with the intent of seeing whether he thinks it would be suitable for my condition.
To the OP; I checked the name of a medicine I take that's an anti-spasmodic drug specifically targeting the smooth-muscles in our intestines to help treat the pain associated with IBS. It's called Mebeverine (that's the name of the drug itself, I don't know what it's commercial name would be in the US) and it might be worth a look at. With the way the NHS works I am afraid I have no idea how much it costs to buy unfortunately but sometimes every avenue is worth looking at.
