Hmmmm...I was thinking about this a while back when I heard about this. When it came to the employee getting fired my 1st thought was was there a policy in place? If there was no policy regarding the matter then I don't think the employee should have been fired. If there was a policy and she ignored it then she should have been fired.
In terms of the the transgendered issue, I think it should be posted publically that they honor transgendered men in the women's waiting room. That way women can make their own choice. They can even have 2 rooms to the left or something like that that they reserve for those individuals.
I just think the store should make it officially known because it's not like it's not happening. I have been in Women's restrooms where there was a cross dresser or maybe transgender (I didn't ask). It was weird because it never occured to me something like that would happen.
Just make me aware and respect my right to choose.
That was my point!! Im not about to strip down to prove my sex nor do I think anyone should have to or even be questioned about what sex they are!
Ya its crazy. I'm sure a lot of hetro guys would love it if the girls had to strip naked before entering a clothing store or dressing room, but isn't that just a little bit too far? I mean come on!

All that said...Im guilty of using the mens room...but when ones has to go they have to go and Im not about to stand in line , or Ive walked in years ago when kids decided they wanted to be more independent. If they werent out in a certain amount of time I went in and made sure that they were alright ...also I have found that the mens room is actually over all cleaner than the womens, that's from cleaning them for years though

1 in 650 Lower number gives over a quarter of a million in the US alone.
If there is one in every 650 people suffering from what you said, that means that 0.154% (that's right, that's ZERO POINT ONE FIVE FOUR PERCENT) of the population are dealing with that problem. If one subtracts .154 from 100 (%) it means that 99.846% are not dealing with that problem. If you were in marketing, would you cater to the 99.846% of your possible demographic, or to the 0.154%?
And since the OP is dealing with people who WILLINGLY choose the "lifestyle" of transgenderism, let's deal with what we DO know about that group. According to several sites, "Nobody knows for sure how many transgendered people there are in the U.S.A...." So since there is OBVIOUSLY such a huge number of such individuals living in the USA, why not cater to them? There aren't even any statistics and yet Macy's is willing to alienate 50% of the population (women, which is probably 85-95% of their shopping base) in order to appease an unknown amount of people who aren't even prevalent enough to have statistics on their group? That makes no sense in any world.

The bigger problem is precedents. It is not about a few transgenders, but the many creeps who will claim themselves transgenders or cross-dressers in order to gain access. Listen to the evening news -- there is a continual stream of predators, rapists, thieves, and human traffickers trying to take advantage of people.
A friend of mine was raped in a women's dressing room, so it is not wild imagination that causes an uproar.
I realize this thread is a bit dated, but it's only on the second page and I found it to be very interesting. In all honesty, it made me sad to read. I'm a transsexual woman, and I always use women's changing rooms, and bathrooms. It's not just Macy's, it's everywhere I go. I don't look into their policies before I do this, and I've never been given any trouble by the staff anywhere I went. So really, to boycott a store like this for their policies does not make much sense, because we're going to go ahead and use those changing rooms no matter what. You shouldn't need signs around stating our presence, either, because it should be common knowledge that we are there.
What, though, is the problem with us being there? Why are you afraid of us? Most changing rooms I have been to have had separate, private rooms, with locks on the doors. Does it matter if I am changing next to you? Are you afraid I am going to rape you? That doesn't seem like a very likely scenario in my mind. And you can't really expect every clothing store in existence to construct new changing rooms just because you have decided to be uncomfortable. Most of the women I've known haven't cared if I used the same bathrooms and changing rooms as them. It seems like kind of an arbitrary thing to be concerned about.
Should male to female transsexuals all use the men's rooms? If so, that would mean that the female to male transsexuals would have to use the women's rooms. That means that this man would be using your bathrooms and changing rooms:
*I can't post pictures yet, imagine a balding man with a beard.
And this young woman would be using the men's:
*I can't post pictures yet, imagine a pretty young woman.
^Both real transsexuals. And you know, statistically, male to female transsexuals are MUCH more likely to be murdered than women. I really am afraid that if I'm made to use men's rooms, that someone will assault me. It's generally been men that have attacked me, taunted me and chased after me in the past. Transgendered people exist, and sometimes it feels as though we are second class citizens. Why should your unfounded squeamishness be more important than my safety?
I don't really see the issue - the rooms are private, so it's not like anyone can see the person get dressed or violate them in any way. There are cameras all outside the halls of these things to prevent theft and usually a person waiting to collect the clothing, hand out keys, etc.

If someone is homosexual why would they rape someone of the opposite sex? Why would a transgender rape a woman? if it is a creepy pervert pretending to be a transgender, yeah. There are locks on the dressing stalls. I understand fear of being attacked. Homosexuals are people too, god loves everyone, we're all sinners. The dressing rooms should be moniterred by store staff so nothing happens in them. Transgenders might be creepy, but there are men waiting around for their wives all the time.
