Random - Dr. Seuss?

I have a 4 month old son...and as you would imagine, his relatives buy him all kinds of toys/books/etc. We do specifically request bibles/veggietales/Christian themed everything...but so far that's been almost entirely ignored. But that's not the point...my point is, he's received a lot of Dr. Seuss books and toys. Whenever I look at any of these, everything within me screams that I need to get them out of the house. I don't know anything about Dr. Seuss - and I'm trying to find some reason for this online but I just keep pulling up a bunch of weird stuff that doesn't explain anything. Does anyone know anything about Dr. Seuss that might be causing me to sense this? I mean, I guess I have to get rid of them...but I'd kinda like to know why. Also wondering how on earth I'm supposed to explain where all of the gifts my inlaws gave him went. They aren't believers, so trying to say that the devil is behind the cat in the hat, even though I have no evidence as to why is probably just going to lead them to privately suggest to my husband that he have me put on some anti-psychotic meds! Anyone know anything about Dr. Seuss? Thanks!!

You have my curiosity. I did a search and came up with a site like the ones that judge anointed men of God (reminds me of it at least) and make a big things out of a small things (misunderstanding the context of what is presented). They thought that one paternal character in a book I've never heard of was "weak". If that's all you've got!

I even looked to see what religion he might have been, and one site said: "Unitarian Universalist". This means everyone is going to Heaven (eventually). One site said he had a disdain for organized religion, of which if all he saw was some churches I know of, I would too!

God has said that some people will never enter the doors of churches because of how they were hurt in them by people who didn't know them. So that's not too alarming.

I went through a staunch fundamentalist period (for lack of a better term) where I despised Santa Claus for being an antichrist(!). In a way for some people he is, since (antichrist basically means instead of Christ). I believe God looks at St. Nicholas a different way. I don't condone the lying to children and the all-seeing eye of the Claus. If you lose Jesus during Christmas, you've lost it all. The whole world chuckles at Santa Claus so you can use it as a witnessing tool for the real meaning of Christmas (not at all commercial). Most people inwardly hate the commercialism. I now have a Christmas tree (rejecting any pagan roots). We acknowledge days of the week and months of the year without any nodding to the foreign gods that many of them are named after. God told Peter Tan that is was about worship, not culture (Eastern symbols being on certain currency) he was concerned about. Where is your heart?

It is possible to have a cursed object that needs to be destroyed and I've destroyed a number myself. (God dealt with me over time.) The Book of Mormon has a huge curse on it. Some people keep them as teaching tools. Beware!

It is possible to have a weak conscience too. We're not even supposed to ask about our meals (as in Paul's travels some offered their food to foreign idols) for conscience's sake. Some couldn't eat meat without their conscience giving them problems. Some messianic Jews still won't eat pork. If your conscience won't allow it, obey your conscience because otherwise you'll be in compromising sin. You can ask God who is greater than your conscience to give you His mind on the Seuss book. Some objects also have properties in the spirit realm based on where (or who) they came from. No point in getting paranoid about that. You can plead the blood of Jesus on everything you have and break any curses off of everything you own and speak a blessing over it. If something needs to be removed, and you are intent on pleasing God, even radically, He'll bring you back to it. Keep praising Him for the guidance. (Bind the devil because he's often the cause of many weak consciences.)

You could always tell your relatives that you want your little one to be consumed in a God consciousness and want to keep his mind stayed on the Lord in every way you can. You can "trade in" your books (for practically nothing) and replace them with better choices. Ask God to work it out with your family in a way only He can orchestrate.

Practically any day care will probably have access to these types of materials because children love them. You'll want to be free of any undue burdens or you won't have any peace. I kind of wished that I hadn't gotten into the superhero comic books. I think that I was "bewitched" by them and many strange powers were worked by some characters (usually the arch villains) in them. I've thought about this a lot over the years. They were easily my favorite possessions. I would go find the old originals and look at the covers and thought, "I was completely bewitched!".

I have found that sometimes when I physically talk (in a renewed state) with someone about certain things pleasing or displeasing God (with a godly person of the Spirit) that the anointing would get stronger as you were "steered" in a certain direction.

Angels take notes of our words and they are recorded. Not just because what we say speaks of the goodness of God, but rather that the goodness of God is continual! He delights in giving wisdom in our conversations and fulfilling His Word by giving light to the righteous. "Light is sown to the righteous."

Seeking to please the Lord and looking for the more narrow way (of grace), the Lord seems to guide the conversation a certain way and the increase in the peace or joy of the Lord is a sure sign of a more narrow way. You can even "see" disturbances in the spirit when certain things (potentially) manifest in the conversation as the light shines over the topic. Religious mindsets or deceptions start to be evident or even stir up and you can sense a little muddying of the waters or uneasiness. Praise the Lord! He won't allow His people to get into deception when they cleave to and trust Him and walk in His Word!

The sweetness of godly counsel as two people who acknowledge the Lord and His righteousness look for a more narrow way seems to draw out wisdom that is beyond ourselves. I look forward to it. I think that we know this somewhat on the forum, but when your mouth speaks it's like your "boat" is moving a certain direction and your "rudder" or tongue is facing one way. You meet resistance when you move aside from the more perfect paths of peace. It could be your words (and understand) that are amiss or imperfect, but sometimes it reveals a wall in the spirit that the one you're speaking to is suffering from. There's a "hit" against a demonic spirit (like the game Battleship!). Sometimes in repeating what you knew was truth, but sensing the "wall" causes the hammer of the Word to penetrate the listening seeker's "assignment" (depending on their willingness to seek actual truth). They could get a strong sense their take is amiss and a discomfort (I hate that!) It's because the enemy inhabits areas of our lives that are not fully sanctified.

In the search for truth, I think you have to both be willing to be wrong, not trusting in your own heart,
but rather acknowledging the peace in the moving in the "waters of the Spirit" (and noticing any discord along the way). judging the peace as the correct way and the discord as deception or less perfect way.

Thanks for the response. I think you summed it up very well. I can really relate to what you say about Christmas - My husband and I haven't been decorating for a few years simply because we just can't figure out how we feel about any of it. It's getting to the point where it's just exhausting and we don't even feel like celebrating it at all...but that would likely be even more exhausting. But...back to Dr. Seuss - I also found some sites that are obviously taking 'nothing' and turning it into a big deal to make him look bad for no apparent reason other then to stir up trouble...and I disregarded them. My son has other 'secular' toys that don't bother me like this...well, except for his sock monkey that looks like a voodoo doll...but that isn't so puzzling lol.

I too have gotten rid of accursed objects before. I started to learn about "spiritual house cleaning" when I was a teenager and I saw a pen lift off of the ground and float across the room, hover in front of me for a moment, and then drop to the ground right before my eyes. This was not a vision...it was literally a pen floating around my room. I said out loud "oh great" and rolled my eyes. haha! I think most teens might have run out of the room screaming...but I guess I was raised to expect these things to happen. My mother had been warning me for years about the stuff I was bringing into my room...so I wasn't surprised or anything. I decided that I should do an experiment and put all my suspicious looking objects out in the shed. As I was doing that, I picked up one of my sketchy looking "pyramid candles", and tilted it to the side to examine it, and as I did that, I felt hot burning wax run down my leg - but the candle was not lit, and there was no wax on my leg. Not surprisingly, after I got all of this stuff out of the house, my life got a lot better....so, I did the sensible thing and made a shrine to the objects...JUST KIDDING!...I threw them all out

I'll let you know if I do come up with anything on Dr. Seuss....or at least if I figure out if it's just some weirdness on my part. I really do hope it's just me getting carried away...that would be a lot easier!

in short... a lot of people exaggerate about a lot of secular things. next thing you know they'll be taking down legos, hot wheels, you name it.
best find some concrete evidence before you throw out something.
but i agree on the cursed object well at least i believe in haunted houses cause i lived in one. oh yeah its true, coffee cups would move all the time and you could make out animals and people in my house. heck i even worked in a haunted pet store. when we would close at night stuff would fly off what was a rather neat shelve.

but too the point. i dont have anything against the doctor's books. i'm nineteen and i think there hilarious.

Honestly, I think you are in the ditch by the side of the narrow road here. There's a balance and I think you are missing it. As Christians, we are to be led by the Spirit of God AND we are also told to renew our minds to the Word.

So, the first and obvious question is, "What standard of the Word does Dr. Seuss violate?" Too much rhyming? Chapter and verse please. Silly pictures? Chapter and Verse please. You might find something against eating green eggs and ham in the Old Testament. But that would be countered by all things being made clean in the New. But again! Chapter and verse please.

There is a HUGE opening for error when you only allow your feelings to guide you. There must be some sensible reason behind the feelings against Dr. Seuss that can be Scripturally explained. If you can't back up your stance with God's Holy Word, then I'm prone to believe that you are just having a wierd feeling going on that should be ignored. Everything must be checked against the Word of God.

I can't think of anything offensive in Dr. Seuss, and I have quite a few of those books in my library. The worst thing I can come up with is the treehugger tendency of the Lorax story. If that's all a person can come up with, then they simply don't fall into the evil/shun catagory.

My two cents worth of rambling.

Which is exactly why I posted this on here. I am simply trying to find out if there is something about him that I was unaware of that would give me a sensible reason to be feeling what I'm feeling. What's so wrong about that? I thought that it was "kingly to search a matter out"?

I have a friend who purchased a cabbage patch doll for his daughter. Or at least he thought it was a cabbage patch doll. He started having very strange feelings about this doll, and eventually they got so strong that he tore it to pieces. When he did this, he discovered that this was no cabbage patch doll - it was actually a replica of one that was made in a foreign country with extremely toxic and harmful materials that no child should be playing with. If he ignored his feelings based on a surface observation, who knows what would have happened to his daughter after years of playing with it. Now, I'm not saying that this example perfectly matches my situation - but I do feel that its a good example of why we shouldn't ignore our inclinations based on the fact that things appear to be harmless on the outside.

Honestly, I think you are in the ditch by the side of the narrow road here. There's a balance and I think you are missing it. As Christians, we are to be led by the Spirit of God AND we are also told to renew our minds to the Word.
In the quest to be a man or woman of the Spirit, we should be willing to examine the things that are our lives (in addition to our behaviors) that might be displeasing to God. I believe the openness displayed on this issue is a good indicator that all things are brought into the light and presented before God in a transparent manner.

We are to be a people of conscience and even though sometimes through lack of knowledge, it can be deceived and laden with burdens that are not of God. What better way than in a spirit of prayer is their than to submit the matter before the body in the sight of God and weigh the considerations herein? If we go against our conscience we find ourselves out of faith and sinning.

You might find something against eating green eggs and ham in the Old Testament. But that would be countered by all things being made clean in the New. But again! Chapter and verse please.

All things are clean in the realm of food. Not everyone has that knowledge and if your conscience gets in the way then eating certain foods moves you out of faith.
What a test it would be even knowing this if someone came up to you and said, "I've made this dish in honor of Krishna"? Wouldn't your first inclination be to object to the very thought of it? This is because you hate God's enemies and the origin of the Krishna deception if a very ugly demon who will burn for eternity. That is why we are not to ask questions when getting our food from the world. You can honor God by not eating and honor Him by eating. Ultimately, you want to be clear on God's perspective which includes liberty.

There is a HUGE opening for error when you only allow your feelings to guide you. There must be some sensible reason behind the feelings against Dr. Seuss that can be Scripturally explained.
If it is just your feelings then that may be the case. If it is the Spirit of God striving with you then this goes beyond reasonings. Our understanding of the Word is incomplete but He knows all. No harm done in having concern. After all, if it is a false burden, we'll carry it until we have knowledge of God's will in the matter. Even if it just a matter of wanting to be free, it is a worthy matter to consider.

If you can't back up your stance with God's Holy Word, then I'm prone to believe that you are just having a wierd feeling going on that should be ignored. Everything must be checked against the Word of God.
Since the Word indicates that their ARE cursed objects then it is wise to consider keeping something in the home or putting something before your children. My own input is that I am not aware of anything objectionable with these books. Keep holding them up and acknowledge God's covenant which includes guidance and rest in His desire to set our minds free from religious mindsets and bring us into glorious liberty. Keep seeking until He makes it clear. Keep rejoicing!

I never said there was anything wrong with your questioning or your searching. You asked the question and I answered with my opinion. I hope it blessed you, but if not, oh well.

And again, if the Holy Spirit keeps pestering you, then you keep looking until you find an answer. Personally, I'm not content to 'just do things' based on some spiritual fuzzy wuzzy.

Never had a problem with him bringing the question. He asked. I gave my answer.

Again, no problem with that.

Well, since Krishna isn't real, and considering that I could stand to miss a meal or two, this wouldn't bother me much, nor would it bother the person who made the meal. I promise you, the person who made the meal wouldn't care one lick if I ate thier food or not.

I've had 'moments' that I cannot explain. They usually involve the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Just had one the other day where I delayed leaving the house. Passed a wreck on the way to school that just happened. If I had left at my normal time... well, I potentially could have been in danger of being involved in that wreck. Praise God for the leading of the Spirit. Trouble is, I didn't realize it at the time until after. Plenty of other examples like those.

Since the Word indicates that their ARE cursed objects then it is wise to consider keeping something in the home or putting something before your children. Curious. Just what objects does the Bible infer are cursed?

Curious. Just what objects does the Bible infer are cursed?
We are redeemed from the curse of the Law. This victory must be enforced by destroying the works of the devil. Sometimes just the presence of the anointing will do this, but many times we must discern the enemy (by the fruits) and then cast him out. It has been demonstrated that certain assignments must be discerned by name or practice (usually the same). For a believer, this often means a confession or renunciation of a specific practice or behavior and a binding of that spirit or spirits to get relief.

It has been shown that certain objects or symbols have evil spirits attached to them (a curse) by virtue of their use or intended use. It does not necessarily mean that the owner of these objects has broken covenant with the Lord.

The NIV translated cursed "dedicated" in many places. I believe this accurately depicts these abominable things. What God considers "worship" and what we consider worship are often different. Objects dedicated to the practice of defiling beliefs and rituals can bring a curse with them. Many times you will know this when you touch them (by the associated fruits of oppression).

The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the Lord thy God. 26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
Deut 7:25-26 (KJV)

And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall come into the treasury of the Lord.
Josh 6:17-19 (KJV)

This demonstrates how the enemy can prevail in your life (in some measure allowed by the Lord) by getting into disobedience.

O Lord, what shall I say, when Israel turneth their backs before their enemies! 9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land shall hear of it, and shall environ us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do unto thy great name?
Josh 7:8-9 (KJV)

And the Lord said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? 11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put it even among their own stuff. 12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. 13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith the Lord God of Israel, There is an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you.
Josh 7:10-13 (KJV)

And it shall be, that he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.
Josh 7:15 (KJV)

And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done: 21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.
Josh 7:20-21 (KJV)

(Things we covet can also be cursed.)

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. 13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God. 14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.
Deut 18:10-14 (KJV)

And ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them 18 Lest there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from the Lord our God, to go and serve the gods of these nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;
Deut 29:17-18 (KJV)

And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked him to jealousy with their sins which they had committed, above all that their fathers had done. 23 For they also built them high places, and images, and groves, on every high hill, and under every green tree. 24 And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.
1 Kings 14:22-24 (KJV)

Moreover the workers with familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and all the abominations that were spied in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, did Josiah put away, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord.

And like unto him was there no king before him, that turned to the Lord with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.
2 Kings 23:24-25 (KJV)

Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: 27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled
Lev 18:26-27 (KJV)

Examples of cursed objects are: swastikas, anhks, yin and yang symbols, inverted pentagrams, cursed "revelation"/other gospels such as the Book of Mormon, Book of Abraham, Doctrine and Covenants, the Om symbol, certain "charms", etc.

Also, due to soul ties, the Lord will sometimes have you to get rid of certain objects that are connected to those who commit abmoninations. This might include jewelry, clothing, (really potentially anything). It's nothing to get paranoid about and having "witch hunts" is not God's intent. It is important to hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord and He will show you what is offensive to Him in your home or possession.

It's all about obeying the voice of the Lord. When God told Joshua not to take any of the silver or the gold when taking Ai, Achan defied the Word of the Lord regarding the objects of Ai and it brought a curse. Later they were told that they COULD take the booty from a conquest.

If the Lord calls for you to do or not do something, disobedience can bring a curse into your life (evil spirit
). If it centers around an object, that object itself can become cursed. It does not mean that you will go to Hell for owning it. Since the enemy has been called the "enemy of your soul" and we know from the Word that the enemy can afflict your flesh and either of these might afflict your spirit, it is in our best interests to win these wars by hearkening diligently to the Lord. "Submit to God, resist the devil and he will flee..."

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
Acts 19:18-20 (KJV)

Some additional knowledge is needed here, but the defilement of an object is indicated.

And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.
Jude 1:22-23 (KJV)
