Baptized more than once?

I was discussing this with a friend who was explaining that their sibling has been baptized more than once.

This brings up so many questions in my mind.

Primarily, how can someone be baptized more than once?

I guess if they had a case like mine, that they changed a denomination. I used to attend Catholic Mass for some months after I got saved but eventually I found out that there is a Baptist Church close to where I live. I haven't got baptized for the second time but I can imagine that some people would. In my opinion it doesn't matter too much I guess because all the work of salvation has been preformed by Jesus. We can't earn anything by our deeds but Jesus did say to get baptized (Matthew 28:19). I'm not sure about the second one. In the Bible only professing Christians were baptized. Lets say that every and each one of them was a born again believer, meaning that they would remain a Christian and would never be lost. In modern terms, I know that my baptism doesn't mean much if anything because before I got saved I had zero personal relation with Jesus. I never professed faith at all before being saved, even after receiving the sacraments. Summing it up; I'm not sure at all. Our works of the law mean nothing. Only faith that is given to us by the power of the Holy Spirit who can raise the dead. Not bodily, but dead in sin.

Blessings!

What about teen baptisms of church kids?

I guess it will make sense if I clarify some details.

If someone was baptized when they had been raised with a intellectual knowledge of scripture and wasn't mature enough in their faith but actually just sort of saying/doing what they thought they were supposed to be doing...

Would it make sense for them to get baptized again after genuinely realizing their nature as a sinner and actively deciding to live as a Christian?

Does this mean they weren't really a Christian before?

I have been baptized twice. The first time I was junior high age and felt like that was the right thing to do after being saved. I fell away from the Lord for a time and then came back to Him several years later. I had been attending a Southern Baptist church for a while after my recommittment and wanted to join the church, but the only way they would let me join was if I was baptized. It didn't matter to them that I had already been baptized before; they probably thought that since I had fallen away from Christian practice for a time that I wasn't really saved to begin with. Who knows.

Anyway, twice baptized I am.

The first couple times I was baptized, well...
The first was as a kid in elementary or middle school at church camp, so I don't think i was mature enough to make such an important decision.

The second time, I dunno. I can't remember too many details, but I don't know if I was actually a Christian or not at the time, either. There's just too many unknowns...

Lately, I've been wanting to be baptized mostly because I've been feeling I should, though the more important part of it is that I want to be baptized because, well, I dunno. I'm starting to think maybe I really wasn't a Christian for all these years, and that now finally I 'got it'. It's hard to explain.
It kind of started to happen after I attended this baptist church we have in town a couple weeks ago. They haven't been talking about it at all, it's just that I felt like I needed to go to church, so I went, and afterwards, bleh.

So I want to be baptized again this third and last time, I hope, not because I feel I have to or need to, but because I actually want to.
I'll probably talk a bit more about what it actually means in it's entirety though...

So there's also the option of doubt and rededication to add to the list of possible reasons.

Oi, usually I'm so good at expressing myself using a keyboard, but for some reason I'm having difficulties in this post properly explaining my thought process.

I think I understand the whole not sure if you were actually a Christian when you were baptized thing. I get that feeling when I look back upon my decision as a teen too.

This was my experience too. When I wanted to join a Baptist church they wouldn't let me join unless I was baptized again. I had been baptized as an infant and again when I was in high school, but not in a Baptist church.
So, I guess you could say, thrice baptized I am.

I was baptised in the Methodist church, aged 7. I didn't really understand what was happening or what baptism meant.

I think now I have truly decided to give my life to Christ that I should have a believer's baptism.

Baptism is a testimony of what has already occurred inside. It evangelizes and energizes those that see it. I know of folks that have requested a second baptism to recommit their lives to the Lord. There are many reasons why folks might one to be baptized again. What we have to keep in mind is that baptism by itself does not save. It imparts no grace. It is an outward sign of obedience, consequently, we can show that obedience more then once.
