I think that there is a better way.
I believe that God's spirit can deliver you from anxiety and many other
thoughts such as fear, depression, hatred, self loathing and many other
problems that stem from improper thinking or concepts.

The principal from the Bible deals with alcohol based drink but I believe
this same principal extends to all substances that alter perception
to the point of intoxication.

Ephesians 5

15 Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately,
not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),
16 Making the very most of the time [buying up each opportunity], because the days are evil.
17 Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish,
but understanding and firmly grasping what the will of the Lord is.
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery;
but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.
19 Speak out to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
offering praise with voices [and instruments] and making melody with all your heart to the Lord,
20 At all times and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father.

debauchery:
a : extreme indulgence in sensuality

Pray and ask God to take away your dependency on pot and to replace it
with dependency on Him through His Holy Spirit.

I was extremely addicted to pot and could not stop smoking it.
It was so bad that I had memory loss, paranoia and I could not function
or be "normal" without pot.

I prayed one night and asked God to take away my desire for pot and He did.

I woke up the next morning and had no urge at all to smoke.

I never went back to that trap that sapped me of my strength and
creativity and kept me in a prepetual state of a "buzz" to keep
me feeling "normal. Everything was filtered through that "buzz"
and I felt like I walked around with a film between me and reality.

There is God's way so if you are willing, God is willing.

As far as guilt or sin, God has His arms opened wide to you and
loves you and wants the best for you so if you run to God,
He will be more than glad to hold you in His arms and help you
come to a better life in Him.

May God bless you....

There's a few things grown on earth that us humans use. Ever heard of opium? it grows in the middle east. that's where heroin comes from.

Just because it's there, doesn't mean we should use or abuse it. There are many legal, non-medicinal and legal, RX ways of dealing with anxiety. You already feel guilty about it. You've answered your own question.

My personal take? It depends on what it does to you, and where you live.

On it's own? Probably not a sin. Sorta like drinking alcohol isn't a sin. However, getting drunk can lead to a sin (The bible warns against intoxication, not because intoxication is a sin, but because you lose your clarity of mind and can fall into sin so much easier). I've never been high on marijuana, but I think the same principal applies.

the other consideration is that we are called to obey the law of the land (Save where it contradicts with God's law), and depending where you live, it may be illegal so smoke marijuana.

I'll refer you to this verse:

1 Corinthians 10:23
"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is beneficial.
"Everything is permissible"--but not everything is constructive.
1 Corinthians 10:23

Depending on where you live marijuana is illegal, there are some states that permit
it to be used medically to treat illnesses-- the person(s) using it do have to have a medical statement proving they are sick etc...

Were you prescribed marijuana by your doctor? Or are you using it without medical/legal consent?

My view is that the bible tells us we are to obey earthly authorities. So if it is against the law then it is wrong to use. That simple for me. Pal Handy made some good points and is worth reading his post again.

nothing wrong with drinking but getting drunk is wrong. So use of wine is fine but as they say in the classics in moderation.
There are plants which can be used for good purposes or bad purposes. They can be used to make medicine or they can be used to make illegal drugs. So there is nothing wrong with the plant itself but rather how it is used. marijuana can actually be used in clothing which is very comfortable. (It isn't only made of marijuana)

I used to be a drug addict, I can tell you that on at least four separate occasions I had demonic experiences while on weed (by itself). One in particular I remember: I got high one day and decided to read the bible, every time I started reading there would be a loud ringing in both ears, the ringing would not stop until I stopped reading and closed the book...this particular event happened three times.

There is something about this drug, it has a strong demonic atmosphere and I believe that it can cause you to enter into a different realm (in the spiritual), this can leave you vulnerable to deception and demonic influence.

I have noticed that most people deep into UFO experiences (yet still claim to be Christian) and other supernatural (unchristian) phenomena...they are usually marijuana users. Do not be deceived, as a Christian you are commanded to abstain from worldly drugs, but be filled with the Spirit of Christ.

Marijuana use is no good no matter if it is legal where you live or not.Romans 12:2.
It also intoxicates which is no good as you should have a clear mind not a mind under the influence of drugs. It also shows(as does cigarettes in my opinion)that you cannot get by without it,more so when you are stressed out,so God does not quite do it for you, when we should rely on God and God alone, especially in times of stress etc.
As it says in the 10 commandments,"you should have no gods before God".
Also look at all the trouble marijuana causes, the fact that it is often a gateway drug as far as im concerned there should be no room for that in anyones life.
IF you TRULY BELIEVE in God you should give it up,and if it is a struggle remember that HE IS REAL and therefore it is defenitly not for nothing.
Hey bud(no pun)check out 2nd Corinthians 12:9-10 and REMEMBER it is real.

I think it isn't a sin depending on where you live. I think many times the church doesn't rely on the bible instead they look towards cultural norms and tie that into scriptures that do not represent what the actual message is.

People have been using since 2737 B.C. and yet and still I see no where that weed is directly related to in the bible. What I do see is scriptures that say homosexuality is a sin(hear a lot of Christians argue that) Remarriage for reasons other then adultery a sin(yet how many marriages does the church do for those that are divorced).

However when it comes to liquor and weed it seems to be this thing where it should not be done, it is wrong and it is a sin. That is man made religion not words from God. The bible does say that one should not be intoxicated and alter one's mind. I have smoked weed before and when it becomes legal I will do it again.

Then let's look at how many people die do weed each year. The fact is more people die from drinking to much water then smoking to much weed. More people die taking over the counter medicines then smoking to much weed.

Again my belief is that weed is not a sin, it is culturally frowned upon that is why it has such a negative view in the church.

There wer no such things as illegal drugs in the Us til after the Civil War.

the sin is not in the doing of the thing, but in letting it beome an obession that interferes with one's life. It is no more a sin than going to an all you can eat buffett.
