Anyone here tired of just doing church?

The only scripture I have to share along this line is what Job went thru Job 42:5,6 . Job was a righteious man and did all the right things, but he only knew what to do what was right, he didn't know the One who made him righteous.

Hi Jujube,

Yes, I must agree with Seal. Job knew the Lord who made him righteous.

"But where can wisdom be found ? And where is the place of understanding ? "Man does not know its value, Nor is it found in the land of the living. "The deep says, 'It is not in me'; And the sea says, 'It is not with me.' "Pure gold cannot be given in exchange for it, Nor can silver be weighed as its price. "It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, In precious onyx, or sapphire. "Gold or glass cannot equal it, Nor can it be exchanged for articles of fine gold. "Coral and crystal are not to be mentioned ; And the acquisition of wisdom is above that of pearls. "The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, Nor can it be valued in pure gold. "Where then does wisdom come from? And where is the place of understanding ? "Thus it is hidden from the eyes of all living And concealed from the birds of the sky. "Abaddon and Death say, 'With our ears we have heard a report of it.' "God understands its way, And He knows its place. "For He looks to the ends of the earth And sees everything under the heavens. "When He imparted weight to the wind And meted out the waters by measure, When He set a limit for the rain And a course for the thunderbolt , Then He saw it and declared it; He established it and also searched it out. "And to man He said, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom ; And to depart from evil is understanding.' "

I find here that Job seemed to have a better grasp than probably most here, who it was who made him righteous. However, I 'm curious how this relates to 'just doing church'. Perhaps you may also have the wrong idea of what the Scriptural definition of the 'church' is.

God bless you.

I'm not saying church is a bad thing....just want to encourage you to reread Job 42:5,6. Job was a man that worshipped, sacrificed, and prayed....in other words he did all the right things. God did not allow all those things to come into his life because he was a bad man, Job was a good man. God brought Job to the point of seeing who He really was, and that is the statement Job makes in Job 42:5,6. I had heard about all about Him BUT NOW I SEE HIM !!!

Hi Jujube,

Well, here's what I find as the Scripture reference in question:
My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."

It would seem that Job always knew of the Lord, but here he claims that his faith has become sight. I believe that this is true of all born again believers. Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, unless a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." It would seem that Jesus also teaches that our faith becomes sight when we are born of God's Spirit.

Somehow I find it a rather difficult comprehension that when Jesus spoke the words to Peter that on this rock he would build his church, that we would ever consider it a bad or ammoral thing. What we do have in the modern practice of faith is a woefully inadequate understanding of what Jesus meant as 'his church' and what we mean when we say, 'do church'. We don't 'do' church. The church is not a building and it is not even a great congregation defined by those who visit such buildings. The 'church' is the group of people who's names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

Job realized who made him righteous after all his ordeal, and he finally repented of it. He questioned God thru the whole book, because he hadn't done anything to have deseved such treatment. He had done all that he knew to do...but he learned that it was about relationship. He finally KNEW God.

Hi Jujube,

This is obviously a loyal understanding that you have received and I find nothing wrong with the conclusions that you have drawn. I certainly agree that Job knew who made him righteous, that he repented of 'it' needs some further explanation, but I'm quite certain that every born again believer who is trusting in the testimony and sacrifice of God's Son for their salvation fully agrees that not a one of us deserves what we will receive.

I know that I don't. I have broken all of God's commands.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

I'm a little confused about what you mean by "doing church".

Everything that happens, no matter good or bad, will work out towards the glory of God. Job went through the trials for God's glory. We can't always see the end the result when we go through trials, and Job clearly could not see it either.

However, God is sovereign over all, and it's a matter of us trusting in Him all the time no matter how we feel or what our circumstances are. I have found this very difficult at times, and it is much easier said than done, but it has been more comforting as my faith has grown.

Another point is that there is nothing we could ever do that would ever be good enough for God. We were born into sin, and our works can never wash it away. Job was not under the dispensation of grace like we are, so we need to rely on Jesus instead of our works (and I am extremely thankful for Jesus!!!).

I can't say that I agree with you that Job had pride issues because it does not appear that this was revealed. However, I can agree that he truly did know who God was much better in the end.

OMGosh !!!! Yes Job knew who God was as far as he knew...has anyone read chapter 42 ? I agree with that he knew more about God than his friends....this I think is a very important point in the story. They (Jobs friends) had no clue as to who God was ( as I think He noted) in fact God kept them in the same ol thing (life as they knew it because they didn't want more) As for Job he was to pray for them and was deliverered AND CHANGED !!!!!. Job knew God with a clean heart...there are many, which is suppose to be my point, that are like Eliphaz, Bildad , and Zophar that think doing all the right things is where it's at. I totally disagree that this whole book is just about a man of faith...but don't get all in a flurry just yet about this statement, I just believe it is a total view of God and how He planned to bridge Himself and man. A story of going from religion to relationship. I'm sorry I'm not the theolgian that most here are, one reason I don 't post a lot here, but it bothers me that this forum misses and doesn't seek further than just what they are taught in a "school". The book of Job is the over all view of OT to NT.
