can homosexuals be saved?

I heard a pastor say no. Because romans one calls homosexuality unnatural, meaning it's such a bad sin it isn't even in the sin nature. God also gave the homosexuals over to their desires, meaning he's given up on them completely.

I don't think that's what Paul was getting at in Roman's at all, rather he was saying that homosexuality is "unnatural" merely because biologically a man is designed to engage with a women in sexual activity. Not that it's somehow "beyond our natural sinful tendencies".

I've grown up around a gay couple, and I love these guys. They've told me they're active members of a church. Now I don't necessarily agree that their lifestyle can be reconciled with Scripture, but I don't think that makes them a lost cause either.

Paul's audience in Romans 1 were heterosexuals. Gay people have nothing to "exchange" to become gay. (Paul was also talking about pagan prositution, which does not apply to modern day society).

And no, homosexuality is not the unpardonable sin. That pastor is 100% wrong.

How in the world do you figure Romans 1 does not apply to modern day society??? Paul establishes doctrine all throughout Romans.

Remember what the prophet Isaiah warned..Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

Romans 1 is about the need for righteousness and is directly against homosexuality... Those who with vile affections dishonor Him, will be given up eventually to dishonor themselves...It does not mean we should not evangelize to them, but dude it goes against all forms of God's word to suggest there is no exchange of light for darkness.

false teaching will always cry intolerance. It will always say you are being divisive, you are being unloving, you are being ungracious, because it can only survive when it doesn't get scrutinized. So it cries against any intolerance. It cries against any examination, any scrutiny—just let's embrace each other; let's love each other; let's put all that behind us. False doctrine cries the loudest about unity. Listen carefully when you hear the cry for unity, because it may be the cover of false doctrine encroaching. If ever we should follow 1 Thessalonians 5, and examine everything carefully, it's when somebody is crying unity, love, and acceptance.

A truly repentant homosexual can be saved. But a homosexual must renounce this lifestyle as sin and turn to the Lord for forgiveness and help in overcoming the perversion. A person who says they have been saved but does not agree that homosexuality is a sin has not met the true holy God of the universe who declared that those who practice such sin will not inherit HIS kingdom.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. " (1 Cor. 6:9-11)

Although this verse makes clear that a unrepentant homosexual is not, nor can be saved (while remaining unrepentant). Paul also makes clear the fact that some of those who he was writing this to WERE at one time homosexual and had been saved (sanctified, justified and washed) by Jesus Christ. They can be saved.

I think the preacher has a fair argument that homosexuals cannot be saved.

Romans 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

In the secular Random House dictionary, this definition is provided for Reprobate "a person rejected by god and beyond hope of salvation." This definition seems consistent with the multiple occurrences of the underlying Greek word in scripture.

Look at Romans 1:28. God, Himself, gave them over to a reprobate might. The NLT uses the phrase "God, he abandoned them..." How can anyone whom God has rejected be saved?

A second argument that homosexuals cannot be saved comes from Liberals. Liberals claim that homosexuals cannot change.

There's no biological reason why someone is a homosexual. There's no "gay gene". There's no scientific reason why they can't be reconditioned and be made no longer homosexual. Attraction, and really any physiological response, is very malleable.

If homosexuals cannot change, and there is no scientific explanation for it, then there must be a spiritual explanation for it. If they cannot change then they cannot be saved. Christians are new men in Christ, not the same old man. 1 Corinthians 6:9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals...
