Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | Down and depressed. Any great advice please? I was not to sure if I wanted to post this or not but here it goes:
I am twenty five years old and I have been working at a nursing home for the past three years. On the positive side I have my own place and my girlfriend has been living with me for quite some time now. Just recently I quit a local band (as a guitarist), to focus on taking care of myself by exercising and spending more time with my family.
About a month ago I lost my grandpa to cancer. He believed in the Lord with all his heart, even until his passing... He went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday.
On top of all this, my direction in life is really confusing. I have no idea what I want I want to do with my future.. About two years ago I went to college for a full year, but have not been back since. School has never been for me and I always had problems with tests.
I had the mind-set of playing music in front of people for the rest of my life but decided it was not for me. Art has always been interesting and fun for me but I always get very lazy with it and never practice enough. Almost everyday I get up and do the same thing making about $8.75 at my job. Soon I will be making $9.00.
Even with the pay I am able to enjoy life and have nice things but I feel like I am better then that. I talked to some people about it but they all have poor advice. If you have taken the time to read this, thank you! |

So what if you're stuck making $9/hour the rest of your life? You won't get to live in a big house, but you'll have a home. Spend your money wisely.
Just do what is right, always, and people will respect you, whatever your income. And, do what is right and you'll respect yourself.
Keep working at the nursing home and be an angel to these old people. Eventually, one of them will add you to his will. But, don't do it for this. |

Like you I felt there was something I was supposed to be doing, and it was against my status worshipping consumeristic culture that I measured myself.
Life is more than how much money we make. As long as you have the basic necessities of life provided for and you enjoy good health, stop and appreciate your incredible good fortune! Reboot your mind, forget stupid worldly aspirations, and enjoy the simple things of life.
Maybe then your artistic juices will begin to flow, and art will no longer be a tedious thing you must practice, but an activity of play that is a deep pleasure.
Just hang in there, and you will discover all of this for yourself. |

agreed, especially if you are saved.. imo it would be time to seek out my relationship with the Lord. asking:
do i know him
do i desire to live for him?
am i continously living in habitual sin against God?
living with the gf is not a very good idea either if seeking holiness through Jesus Christ |

You'll get plenty of folks here to encourage you and tell you nice things, so I will do otherwise and ask the obvious: how do you reconcile a life devoted to following Jesus with living with your girlfriend? (I know it may be an uncomfortable question, but please know I ask it only in hopes of helping.) |

Reps: 10 (power: 0) | | | why not join a church band if you are a musician? help spread the word through the talent you have been blessed with. As for your grandfather, you will be reunited in a better place. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | | | |
