Dear mark1. Matthew tells us that Jesus told a Lawyer: " The first and great Commandment is: Love thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like unto it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus states: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." To love our neighbour shows God that we follow His Commandments, and to show God that we love our neighbour as we love ourselves, shows God that we seriously try to follow His Commandments, and thus we show our love to God. To love one`s neighbour is what all kind people do, and God is pleased about it, but those kind people have their rewards here on Earth: they are thanked and well liked. But when Jesus talks to Christians, followers of Christ, He says that we are to love/treat them as we would love/treat ourselves. We are one family, we have one Heavenly Father, and we are all made in God`s image. Notice that Jesus talks to Christians, we ourselves do not know if all others, friends or not friends, will choose Christ as their Saviour. But God loves them and we must do the same. When God sees how seriously we follow His Commandments, and love as Christians are asked to love, God will approve and gives us His Blessings, God will see our Love for Him in action. To love God and love our neighbour, is straightforward and easy to remember, mark. Jesus will give us His Love and Joy to share, the Holy Spirit will empower us us with His Love, and we show God and the World that we are God`s Own, changing our selfish and unloving character FOR: Loving God and loving our neighbour as we love ourselves. We may stumble and fail many times, but we will get up again, and ask God`s Forgiveness, and we will be forgiven as we forgive others. I say this with love, and send greetings. Emmy, your sister in Christ. P.S. Jesus taught us to " ask and receive," let us keep asking for God`s Love to share with others.
Should we keep the 2 commands of Jesus and the Great Commission?
This question seems in keeping with the others on how many commands we should keep. This is clearly a board well-steeped in the legalism of the Western Church.
Aren't Jesus' commandments the same as God's commandments?

These two commendments replaced the ten.com or the Old Covenant, but there were over 600.com in the law.
We not under the law but the New Testament has hundreds of commandments to observe.
Not that I'm highly interested in arguing this, but how do you figure they replaced the OC when they were part of it?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

You're missing my point. I am quoting Christ in John 13. It is a new commandment per the Lord.
The new commandment goes well beyond the "love your neighbor" stuff.

Dear maid in His image. Jesus gave us these 2 Commandments, and stated the fact, that on these 2 Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets. They go together and change us from being selfish and unloving, into loving God and loving our neighbour, God first, as our loving Heavenly Father, and our neighbour, all others, friends or not friends, As we love ourselves. Jesus will give us His Love and Joy, and the Holy Spirit will empower us with His Love. We will treat our neighbour as we would love/like to be treated: with kindness, patience, charity, a helping hand if needed, and being a good neighbour. God sees our sincere efforts and approves and gives us His Blessings. In time we will change and become loving children/sons and daughters of our God who made us in His image. The World will notice and treat us the same, and when we stumble or fail, we ask God in Prayer, to forgive us as we will forgive those who transgress/sin against us. All we say or do, should be done from love, instead of selfishness, greed, anger or general animosity. This is easy to remember and can be done, and the world will recognise Love for God and neighbours. Love is a mighty and strong weapon, love conquers All and overcomes All. It might take longer to reach its goals, but God willbe on our side, and with God on our side who can stop, or hinder us? I say this with love, maid in His image. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.
