Collection and Storage of Cord Blood

Collecting your baby’s cord blood is simple and safe. When your baby is born, the cord is clamped and cut. Using the supplies provided in the Cryo-Cell collection kit, your healthcare professional collects the blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta.
Next:
1. You may arrange for the transport of your specimen by simply calling a Cryo-Cell Transportation Coordinator 24/7/365 at 1-800-STOR-CELL, option 1.

2. Once your specimen is received in Cryo-Cell’s laboratory, the cord blood is tested for microbiological contamination. It is then processed with Hespan®, a plasma volume expander derived from natural sources of starch, to reduce the red blood cells while concentrating the white blood cells and stem cells.

After having seven healthy children, my seventh child suddenly developed Type 1 diabetes. Up until then cord blood collection was either not offered, or if it was it had been out of our means to afford. When I fell with my eighth child, we made the decision that we were definately going to have the cord blood collected, just in case there was a cure developed down the tack and this blood was required. We have it stored for 20 years, and is being stored for our personal usage only, as we had the option to store for private, or public use.
Nothing may come of this blood, but it is good knowing that it is there should it be required.
