So glad to hear things are improving for you. It's great that God's given you the right person to be there to talk to
Oh yes, I pinch myself everyday over how blessed we are to have the right pastor. Others come to him saying how much they appreciate him.
We just need to do something about that rock music in church...but I continue to pray for God to move in regards to that and in the whole church. When I play, I 'pray'. I pick a song that represents my prayer. And then as I play, I picture the prayer as well. The last few weeks I have pictured the Holy Spirit blowing through the church breathing new life and hope into the congregation. I haven't shared this with anyone. then tonight at church, Mom said that she had a dream the other night in which the Holy Spirit breathed on everyone and revival came about. My mother NEVER talks like this. She thought it was just a dream. I told her I believe it is God's way of giving me more confirmation.
It's hard to express it on here just typing, cos there's only so many words, but I'm so happy hearing this story

hey WP!! how is everyone doing? anything cool going on at your church? We have VBS next week, the kids are looking forward to it!! I won't be able to volunteer this year because my 7 mos old won't let me leave her site for more than 10 mins, so that will be weird. I guess there is a season for everything, i will miss being in the midst of everything.

I guess that the Holy Spirit can expect to find a follower of Jesus more open to his guidance than those who are not. And suspecting that the beat of a given piece of music is actually an ammoral issue, not having any morality to it as being right or wrong, do you mind if I pray for you to learn to love and be able to worship to rock music, rather than the other way around?

There is a long story behind the rock music issue that I don't have the strength to rehash. A short summary of it is that the former pastor used it as a club against anyone who disagreed with him. This led to other worship team leaders feeling that they too could say nasty things about anyone who disagreed with them. It has been used as religious guilt and manipulation in this church and I am sick of it. And then for me personally, it is a horrible thought to know that each Sunday in church I am going to be physically assaulted by the music. By that I mean the vibration is so strong that it beats against my chest triggering a migraine. That's only the tip of the iceberg of this issue.
Ask God to direct you on praying for this situation.
Maid Marie, I know what you mean about certain kinds of music makin mea tense. It's not really rock per-say but when there is too much use of the cymbols, it starts to just clang my brain and it starts to be all I can hear.
It is nice when the church can offer a traditional service at one time and a "contemporary" (if you will) service at another time so you knwo which one you are going for. It's a shame if the message gets lost in the music because the beat or the clang is distracting one from the lyric or the spiritual message intended for the song.
I heard of a church where it was actually an acapella service at 1st service and a piano only at the second. One had a full band with horns and electric guitars at 7pm and spanish service. Another had an acustic guitar and candle light service on Wednesday nite outside service 2nd service on Sundays.
There's alot of ways to bring in more unique worship music without loosing the traditional music. One would hope that the Pastor would be willing to listen to some of their lonf time supporters about how to incorporate in a friendly way. I have seen people come in from a special musice be it rock or Hip Hop and really find the Lord and come worship and fellowship and bring in others.
Anyway, now I'm all over the place so.....Still gotta say God bless you all!

Thanks Rtunner. Unfortunately, we only have one choice now. And when we go to two services we'll still only have one choice. And you're right, it is a shame that the message is lost because the beat or clang is distracting. It is so bad that for real worship I attend a second church as well. It is a nearby Episcopalian church with an 8 AM service that has no music at all. I wish I could go to the 10 am service with music [I've heard them practicing and it sounds beautiful]. It is nice because I can go to church with a migraine and come home blessed. While at my own church sometimes it will trigger a migraine and if I have a migraine it will make it worse so I just don't bother going.
The previous pastor, who controlled the worship team, didn't care one whit what the long time supporters requested for worship and made sure they knew that. That and the unloving attitude is why we hemorraged a third of our members within the last few years. The current pastor is loving and cares about the concerns of all age groups but is more hands off. He gives general suggestions but doesn't order the worship team to do things a certain way. This is probably just as well - I want the worship team to hear God's Spirit guiding them on the way to worship. So, I keep praying for God to speak to them. Lately, I have been getting a reassurance from him that he is moving and things will be changing.
