Iran Just Shipped Missiles to Venezuela. Hello? Is This Thing On?
Recent revelations about hostile incursions into South America have raised alarm in those who care about U.S. interests and security, particularly in America’s hemisphere. They have also raised questions about whether the Monroe Doctrine — America will tolerate no hostile incursions in her own hemisphere — is dead. These revelations have been, for the most part, ignored by those who care little for American sovereignty and security, such as the MSM and apparently the Obama administration.
Among the two most alarming revelations is the already completed sale and delivery, to Venezuela by Russia, of nearly 2,000 advanced, shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles capable of hitting aircraft as high as 19,000 feet.
Equally and perhaps more alarming is an October agreement between Iran and Venezuela. The agreement establishes a joint ground-to-ground missile base on Venezuelan soil and calls for the sharing of missile technology and the training of technicians and officers. In addition, Venezuela may use the missiles as it chooses for 'national needs' and in case of 'emergency.' Several types of missiles will be deployed, giving Venezuela the ability to strike targets throughout South and Central America and throughout the U.S.
They have the right to prepare for self-defense. With the way that Chavez hates the USA, it is no surprise.
He is a two-bit dictator doing what they do.

Well, Verve, can you really blame Chavez? I expect you do know of some of the things the US has done in Latin America through the years. There is a high level of distrust and dislike for the US in Latin America, and for some pretty good reasons too.
I cannot see Chavez as a realistic threat to America in terms of him attacking unprovoked. Now if provoked however... Let's just say I hope the US breaks it's modus operandi and decides NOT to mess around too much in Venezuela now. I do think he might use those missiles if provoked.

I have repeatedly said that in my opinion the idea of a personal God is a childlike one. You may call me an agnostic, but I do not share the crusading spirit of the professional atheist whose fervor is mostly due to a painful act of liberation from the fetters of religious indoctrination received in youth.
So the missiles came from Russia not Iran and are antiaircraft missiles not attack missiles.
The joint development of ground missiles sounds more serious but just makes venezuela a target for a cruise missile strike or special op in the event of hostilities against the US by this country or Iran. In that event the antiaircraft missiles would be entirely ineffective.

Pretty much this. Plus he has to be worried about the US' main ally in the region, Colombia.
Why should sovereign nations not be allowed to trade arms as they see fit?
Chavez may not be a friend to the US, however he is a democratically elected President. Calling him a dictator simply shows that your willing to ignore the facts when they don't suit your politics.

I can understand a nation being concerned that their diplomatic enemy is shipping missiles to another diplomatic enemy--but that doesn't make it morally wrong.
You think that's bad, try putting yourself in Iran's shoes: try having your diplomatic enemy 4 times your size in population invade your next-door neighbor and station half their entire armed forces on your doorstep sometime.
