how I kicked my addiction

I hope this story helps anyone struggling with an addiction.

I used to have a drinking, smoking, and drug problem. The drugs would mostly be pain killers, and every now and then weed. When I first turned 21, I started going to the local gas station and buying bum wine. (for those that don't know, that's very cheap wine with a high level of alcohol)
I'd go to the station everyday and get a big bottle, and as soon as I got home, I'd drink all of it. The next day, I'd do it all over again.
I'd usually only pop pills, when I couldn't get any wine.
What helped me to quit, was I heard that someone I deeply cared for was doing drugs. Now at this point, I was so scared for them, I quit instantly. It was my way of trying to be strong for them.
Anyway, to cut the story short, after I'd been clean for awhile, I found out that this person I cared for so much, was never on drugs. I realised that it must have been God's way of saving me from that, to open my eyes.

I think the point is, to find a motivation to quit. Something that when you think about it, your eyes will open. And you'll realise that your reason to quit, is greater than your reason to continue your addiction.
For me, my reason was my love for this person. The fear of them ruining their life literally scared me straight.

I really hope this helps someone. And if you need to talk, pm me.
