All Circumstances

We often get a clouded view of happiness from the media.
Television programs solve problems in less than an hour, they have beautiful bodies and no matter what happens, we get to see them again and again. Some problems take years to solve, some questions are never answered and some relationships dissolve regardless of our feelings.

Not to sound negative, this is reality.
Paul knows this and sends warning against being idle (1 Thessalonians 5:14), as this can feed on our "woe is me" attitude.

As a Christian, it is our responsibility to help others get through the trials of life. How, then, can we live as examples if we are down in the dumps whenever things go wrong?
We have the advantage of knowing that there is more to life than the day to day existence.
We have someone with whom we can talk day or night, our Counselor, our Savior - He is expecting to hear from us.
As long as we have breath, we have another opportunity - for this alone, we should be thankful.

We cannot make decisions for others, regardless of their circumstances, we must be strong to lift them up - we should allow God's joy to shine through in our countenance. No matter what our situation, God is there
It is up to us as Christians to take advantage of our connection with the Almighty.

Lord, help me to reveal your love through all circumstances.

Christ Be Humble

In life, we often get more accomplished by humbling ourselves rather than demanding.
We can demand attention, but it can bring about negative results. As the saying goes, it is hard to be humble.
The world teaches us that we should take care of "me" first; but the Bible teaches us to have a servant's heart.
God, too, wants us to humble ourselves; after all, we have done nothing to deserve His grace and mercy.
We cannot buy or earn our way into Heaven.
It is simple. Ask God's forgiveness and do it sincerely; then don't sin any more. We are not perfect; God will help us to know what we should not be doing.
Even when we stumble, God does not reject us like a defected product. He loves us regardless and is there to help get us back on track.
Lord, help me to be humble.

Christ Fellow Mortals

Your time of preparation may be far more brief than you now think. A few, very few more opportunities for prayer, and reconciliation with God, and your account is sealed up.
While you hesitate, the recording angel may be writing your condemnation.
In such circumstances, what are worldly honors, or wealth, or all your hopes of enjoyment here?

The life, the eternal life of the soul, is the one thing needful—the only thing really important.
You will realize this truth, when the last trumpet is sounding through the universe, and, with increasing agony or ecstasy, millions of ages after the final sentence is pronounced. Consider it now.

Prepare for that judgment, now. To-morrow! where is it? Repent to-morrow! You may have far other work to do.
God, and conscience, and your immortal interests plead, "To-day, if you will hear his voice, harden not your heart."

"Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little.
For he cometh, to judge the world, in righteousness to judge the earth, and the people with his truth.

Christ In a few years

Psalms 90:12
"Teach us to number our days aright,
that we may gain a heart of wisdom."

How perishable is human life, yet no one lays it to heart.
With eternity before us, let time, with all its fluctuations, dwindle into its own littleness.
In a few years our heads will be laid in the cold grave, and the green turf will cover us. The children who come after us will tread upon our graves. They will weep for us a few days.
They will talk of us a few months. They will remember us a few years. Then our memory shall disappear from the face of the earth, and not a tongue shall be found to recall it.
"If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be!" Deut. 32:29

O God, help me to live for Your glory. As the years roll over me, may I withdraw my affections from time, and feel that in moving through the world, I am moving toward eternity.

Christ The wisdom of old age

Is the realization that we can't do it alone, the realization that without the Lord we are nothing. In old age we look back over our life and see that the Lord has been there all the while.

What do the Writings teach us about old age?
Just listen to this passage from the Writings: "Old age is the last age, when earthly and corporeal things begin to be put off and the interiors of a man begin to be enlightened." So in the last stage of our life the Lord allows the things of our body to wane gradually and grow dim. We find that our physical bodies are not what they used to be.

The Lord does this on purpose, so that during the last stages of our lives our minds can be elevated toward more interior things. The Lord, in His wisdom, provides a gradual giving up of the things of this world as a preparation for the eternity of heaven.

It is interesting to ask elderly people what things they value most. How often they respond with memories of friends, family, and human relationships. In old age a transition is taking place. It is a time of uplifting our lives toward heaven.

Another beautiful teaching in the Heavenly Doctrines: We are told that the body grows old but the spirit itself does not age. The body grows old, but if anything the spirit grows younger. This is why we all find ourselves in the unusual situation where as years are put on, we still feel the same. The body may feel older, but the person inside that body is still the same. We still feel just as young as we ever did. And in this sense we are all young.
It is the timelessness of the human spirit.

Conquest to Victory

"And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly" Romans 16:20

This promise follows well upon that of yesterday. We are evidently to be conformed to our covenant Head, not only in His being bruised in His heel, but in His conquest of the evil one.
Even under our feet is the old dragon to be bruised. The Roman believers were grieved with strife in the church; but their God was "the God of peace," and gave them rest of soul.

The arch-enemy tripped up the feet of the unwary, and deceived the hearts of the simple; but he was to get the worst of it, and to be trodden down by those whom he had troubled. This victory would not come to the people of God through their own skill or power; but God Himself would bruise Satan.
Though it would be under their feet, yet the bruising would be of the Lord alone.

Let us tread upon the tempter! Not only inferior spirits, but the Prince of darkness himself must go down before us.
In unquestioning confidence in God, let us look for speedy victory. "SHORTLY." Happy word!
Shortly we shall set our foot on the old serpent!
What a joy to crush evil!
What dishonor to Satan to have his head bruised by human feet!
Let us by faith in Jesus tread the tempter down.

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he
will not turn from it.
-- Proverbs 22:6

Children don't need to be taught; they need to be trained. Life
is not just about intellectual lessons and information. It is about
integrating truth into the fabric of our daily lives. God calls us
to move our children and their training up on the list of our
priorities because our children are forever, while most of the
other things we invest our time in are temporary.

Christ Know how to wait

"He that believeth shall not make haste"
Isaiah 28:16
He shall make haste to keep the Lord's commandments; but he shall not make haste in any impatient or improper sense.
He shall not haste to run away, for he shall not be overcome with the fear which causes panic.
When others are flying hither and thither as if their wits had failed them, the believer shall be quiet, calm, and deliberate, and so shall be able to act wisely in the hour of trial.
He shall not haste in his expectations, craving his good things at once and on the spot; but he will wait God's time.

Some are in a desperate hurry to have the bird in the hand; for they regard the Lord's promise as a bird in the bush, not likely to be theirs. Believers know how to wait.
He shall not haste by plunging into wrong or questionable action. Unbelief must be doing something, and thus it works its own undoing; but faith makes no more haste than good speed, and thus it is not forced to go back sorrowfully by the way which it followed heedlessly.

How is it with me?
Am I believing, and am I therefore keeping to the believer's pace, which is walking with God?
Peace, fluttering spirit! Oh, rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him! Heart, see that thou do this at once!

Christ

Faith is the key to spiritual conquest.

Hebrews 11:30
“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been encircled for seven days”

Forty years had elapsed since the Israelites refused to enter the Promised Land. That unbelieving generation had perished in the wilderness, can you imagine seeing 50 people you know die each day?
Now Joshua was leading a new generation into the land. The first obstacle they faced was Jericho—a well-fortified city that was near the mouth of the Jordan River.

Some city walls of that day were wide enough at the top to allow two chariots to ride side by side. That was probably true of Jericho because of its strategic location. That, coupled with the caliber of its army, made the city virtually impregnable—especially to unsophisticated Israelites, who lacked military training.

But what is impossible for man is easy for God Luke 1:37
And the stage was set for Him to demonstrate His power and for the Israelites to demonstrate their faith and humility.
One can only imagine how embarrassed the Hebrew people felt as they marched around Jericho once a day for six days. That certainly is not your typical military strategy.

But on the seventh day, after marching around the city seven times, with the priests blowing their rams’ horns, the priests gave one final blast, the people all shouted out loud, and the walls of the city collapsed Joshua 6:20

Faith had reduced a formidable obstacle to a crumbled ruin.
Can you identify some spiritual obstacles you’ve faced recently?
How did you handle them?
You’ll always have them to deal with in your Christian walk, but don’t fret.
See them as opportunities to exercise faith and to see God’s power on display in your life.
Continue to trust the Lord and to demonstrate your faith by courageously doing what He has called you to do.

Romans 5:5.
We have been given an ocean of love in our hearts;
we merely need to let it flow from us to others,

What we really need is to understand what we have already been given in Jesus. What we need is to understand what we have in Him and how to appropriate those things in our lives. That is what Paul talks about in this verse. His prayer for the saints is that they will grasp who they are and what they possess in Jesus Christ.

There is a story told about William Randolph Hurst.
He was a multi-millionaire and an avid collector of expensive and rare works of art. He read about a particular painting and he became determined to acquire it for his collection regardless of the expense.

So, he sent his agents out all over the world to find this painting. His search costs him thousands of dollars and lasted several months.
When his agents reported back to Hurst, they told him that the paining has been found, but that he already owned it and that it had been stored in one of his many warehouses for years. He was searching for something he already possessed.

That sounds like us doesn't it?
