I think the statistics are fairly accurate at least this would apply to Alaska where I taught in an Alaskan Native American School (mainly Thinglet, Eskimo, Athabascan) when I was a single, young, teacher. So many students later succumbed to alcohol or died of its effects. But in Alaska a number of my former students and many Alaskan Native Americans also drown in river boat accidents specifically those living in the villages in the "Bush" (now called rural Alaska).
I took my kids to see How To Train Your Dragon a few days ago.
I took my kids to that one... it was pretty cute. I took them to Toy Story 3 and Despicable Me too. (My brother's visiting from overseas, so we've been doing a lot more movie going than usual.)
I didn't care for Despicable Me all that much... Toy Story was nice overall.
Sorry.. I'm not much of a movie critic.. ha ha
I did watch that movie 'Babies', and I really enjoyed it. I LOVED the little African baby. The movie made me feel like the kids who had the least seemed the most content... although that opening bit in the trailer with the bros fighting might not show it.

It's interesting, I got the impression that parents it seems in the West are waaaaaay overprotective of their children.

One thing I've noticed, both by the previews here and by having lived in the country, a small town, a military installation, and a city, is that parents are more protective (out of necessity) when they are crowded in more. In the country, my kids could roam and I didn't worry as much. In a small town, they were allowed down the road (though when I lived in a smaller town, I was allowed to run the town). When I lived on a military installation, I was allowed throughout the neighbourhood. Here in the city, I don't let the the kids out of the yard most days. I like being near a city, but I miss wide open spaces also.

I don't go see movies. I wait for them to be released to DVD or I watch them online.
I do this, too... it's actually cheaper to buy it than it is to go to the cinema over here

Dear God,
Cancer is unbelievably hard on us ladies, but it must be 200 times harder on husbands/wives, partners, boy/girlfriends, parents and children as they witness us ladies fight against cancer. May our Dear Lord give them the strength, peace, bravery, grace, mercy and the light (understanding) as they watch our continuous fight? Help them have an easier time to remain on our sidelines and be strong enough to
Stand by us consistently, as we ladies need to rely on their love.
Please God, try to cease their guilt "what can I do? I feel so helpless for them" because that can be an unhealthy consumption of their mind & soul. Cancer or not, we still adore them. Cancer just happened & we can't turn back time, but gently lead our loved ones to get closer to us throughout our difficult ordeal. In the name of our Father, & Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen
