Are obsessive thoughts ever true?

Hi, I suffer from OCD very VERY bad, and I always find I am obsessing about one thing or another. But fortunately I find a way to stop obsessing (threw countless google searches, posting on forums, etc) I know the thoughts are ridicules (if I obsess to long they begin to seem more like reality), but I was basically wondering, when I obsess about something is there ever A REAL REASON to obsess?

Here is an example of an obsessive thought I had (it is very ridicules):

There is this website called "The Onion" it is a very funny parody news website, and when I was innocently watching a video about Koy4Goff (don't ask) I started obsessing that the people were not REAL people go figure.

So my real question is this:

When I find my self obsessing about something is there even the tinyist possibility it might be true?

HI Fighter5,
Our OCD can cause all sorts of absurd suggestions to pop into our heads. Many times we are able to really "get it" that they are absurd and it's just that our anxiety is inappropriately peaking in response to them. There are others, however, that will always carry with them a slight possibility that they might be true... things such as health obsessions or contamination etc. The problem lies in our inability to obtain irrefutable proof or absolute reassurance about these things. That is why one of the most important keys to managing this disorder is to learn to accept, expect and live with feelings of uncertainty about these type of obsessions. Not that this is easy to do..... but practice makes perfect.
Glad to have you on the forum.
God Bless,
Mitzi

Hi gracealone, thanks for the reply. There are a couple of corrections I would like to make. I wrote my original post as if I still have it -I don't. I went to the mental doctor, got some medication (I am off it now) and have not had a problem since.
