Today the Church honors St. Matilda, religious. As Queen Mother in 10th century Germany, she gave much to the poor. This angered her son, King Otto, who falsely accused her of financial mismanagement. She is the patron of the falsely accused.

Bl. Robert Dalby died on this day in 1589. He was a protestant minister in England who became a Catholic priest. Catholic persecution was raging through England and he was soon arrested. Because he was a priest he was tortured and killed.

Today is the optional memorial of St. Patrick, bishop. St. Patrick evangelized Ireland, converting the whole country. Because of his work, monasteries were opened in Ireland that would protect the European faith during the Dark Ages.

Today is the optional memorial of St. Cyril of Jerusalem, bishop and Doctor of the Church. His catechism was considered outstanding. St. Cyril was also a strong defender of the faith against the Arian heresy before he died in 386 A.D.
