When Satan can get the focus off of the preaching of the Gospel of the free and sovereign grace of God in Christ he has won the day. Eternity bound sinners do not need to know about what will happen other than what is plainly revealed. For men to teach prophecy as though it is something that they are absolutely sure about is to lie to those who listen to them. No one knows and to conjecture is giving an opinion that counts for nothing. Sinners, that includes those who believe in Christ, don't need to hear about prophecy they need to hear and learn of Christ. They don't need to prepare for a "rapture" they need to prepare for judgement.

Brother, you are right, absolutely right, and I agree to a certain extent.

Sinners also need to know what awaits them not only in the immediate future but also what awaits then for eternity. And eschatology does that. This...is what awaits you if you "neglect so great a salvation." (Heb. 2:3)

Yes, preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, absolutely!

But a certain amount of eschatological preaching can and did put the fear of God and eternal damnation into this Supervisor.

Does anybody remember a Christian movie that came out in the 1970's and played in churches across America entitled "The Burning Hell"?

Guess what was a contributing factor that led me to the altar?

I don't see that a certain amount of preaching eschatology is a "bad thing".

God Bless

Till all are one.

Yes there are 2 things we know for sure that are going to happen in the future: Christ is coming back and there is a judgement. We preach those things incessantly as part of the Gospel. But all the conjecture and opinion about the details are nothing but conjecture and opinion. John tells us that which we have heard, seen and handled of the Word of Life we declare. 1John 1:1-3

Does understanding the Biblical doctrine of the Second Coming of Christ do us any good?

"...but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure."

1 John 3:2-3

I guess I opened up a can of worms here! There is much more on this site than the Rapture issue. I just wanted to share something with you all. Sorry. Whether you believe in the Rapture or the "unimportance" of eschatology in these exciting times is not the point. ( and I find these very exciting times.) I should have been a little more clear....sorry. The end-times events are a fascinating subject. Yes! By all means we should preach the Gospel and win souls to Christ! But, honestly and sincerely, how many of us do this in our daily lives?? To preach that there is a Heaven to gain and a Hell to shun is part of the gospel message. Sometimes it takes an eschatology "message" to reach certain people along with the message of God's love.
Again, sorry for the confusion, Just wanted to share. In Christ, Jeff
